The Hammer of Gûntera is a militant/religious sect of Gûntera's worshipers(namely every single dwarf). The Order is beholden to The church of Guntera.
Potential candidates are taken from their parents at the ages of three to four. and trained in the art of Hammer, Shield, and Sword. As such any member of the The Hammer of Gûntera is rival to master in the fields of those craft. Magic is also taught by the highest magicians in the Dwarven kingdom. The techniques that are used to break the minds and barrier to magic are ancient and used elsewhere. the outcome of any chosen paladin is a legend, whether it be with sword and shield, or a weapon of their choice. Those that display magic are trained to be the best and foremost of the Dwarven race.
That being said outsiders may join the ranks of The Hammer of Gûntera. But they are not trained from such a young age, therefore the The Hammer of Gûntera. will only accept those that are near legend in a skill already. One such member would be a Dwarven thief, condemned to die. The Hammer of Gûntera stepped in and offered him a place amongst them of middling rank. The thief accepted and now serves Gûntera with a passion equal that of a Bastion.
Bastions, Are born with two Grey shaded eyes on the day of Gûntera 's Birth. It is said that the parents of these children can be of any rank or social order. The Hammer of Gûntera soon locates them and regardless if the parents wish it or not take the child and begin the life of training. Bastions are taught the same as any other paladin, but they are also taught more. Bastions are held to a higher standard. Bastions are believed to be handpicked by Gûntera Himself. There has always only been one bastion, Every time there is a bastion that is alive none of the children born on the day of Gûntera 's birth will have grey eyes. They are the Ultimate soldier, Blessed by Gûntera and bestowed with the armaments of Gûntera there is no mightier dwarf. they posses infinitely sharp minds and an iron bound will.
Other clans will interact with Paladins differently, as they are considered blessed by Guntera, this leads them to being treated liek honored guests and many will covet the chance to meet the paladin. Since Paladins mainly root out injustice and evil in the world a visit from more than a few paladins is considered an ill sign. Most Dwarves will lock their doors when a paladin is seen and pray to Gûntera that it is not their house being visited.
The Hammer of Gûntera is lavishly armed and armored. Their kit is supplied only by the finest smiths in the kingdoms. The standard color of The order is grey black and orange. Grey and black being predominant and orange serving as trim. This is reflected on both their banner, which is an image of a Sword emblazoned with wings. and their gear which all reflect this coloring
~~ Social rules and Mandate~~
The Mandate of Guntera
Come now paladins of my order and follow these decrees. You no longer belong to yourself, You live and die for the Order. You must server your king and the Nation of Dwarves to the outmost of your abilities. You are to bring the Might of Guntera to all who will hear it. May you bring Glory to Guntera in all that you do. Thus is the decree. Thus is the mandate
~~ what they are in a nutshell ~~
The order exists as a Highly trained and lethal yet religious group who serve the king. Where once entire armies of dwarves were sent to quell problems or revolutions now just a few Paladins are sent. Their main purpose is to serve the king and the military by acting as highly trained commandos[for lack of a better word]. Wether this be to go quell a rebellion in the east, or to go find a lost General.
Even though the order themself is highly militaristic that does not make them part of the rank and file of the dwarven army. The Hammer of Guntera is the special task force group that the court systems, the clan heads and the king uses to carry out tasks deemed to delicate or to severe to warrant an army. This being said they are not above the law. They may act around it with permission from only the king or his immediate council, this is the only time they may do so.
~Social Rules. ~
The Hammer of Gûntera is Subservient to the church, The church is subservient to the king. The Different ranks of Bastions while they hold no true social power are highly regarded in all the holds. It is a social norm to treat Paladins of the Order as distinguished guests. The paladin order must operate within the confines of the local law unless overturned by higher authorities. This however is extremely rare as most local governments revere the order to give them leeway when it comes to small laws.
The laws of The Hammer of Gûntera
You shall not kill an innocent man child or woman, or you will die at the hand of Guntera.
You shall not Consider any force Above Guntera, lest that Guntera strike you down.
You shall Pray to the mighty God Guntera three times a day, Doing this brings Guntera much joy.
Thou shall not Covet your neighbor's Feldunost, for this angers Guntera
You Shall only take One wife or husband and remain faithful to them. Doing so pleases Guntera
Thou shall never take what is not yours in the eyes of Guntera.
You shall never spread deceit before the ears of Guntera
The Hammer of Gûntera has few ranks but they are as follows
the highest ranking
Deacons in the church of Guntera~ These are the highest ranking officials in the Paladin order but yet do not directly control the paladins. The deacons maintain the order while the paladins come and go. they also take care of the trivial things that the paladins may serve unmolested by tedious matters.
Paladin Bastion: the head of the order and the chosen exemplar of Gûntera himself.
Paladin Storm-walker: The next highest rank of Paladin, they are as close to equals to bastions as Gûntera will allow. They often handle more of the tactical side of things.
Paladin Tempest: a paladin of noticeable degree, these are above you average run of the mill Paladins and are legends in one or more skill.
Paladin: A member of the order who did not die during the schooling of the Order. they are a full member, and their voice is taken with respect in all Dwarven clans.
[[Note]] As the Paladin Order of Gûntera is home to immensely powerful Dwarves it is not required but asked that you ask .:[Crim]:. before writing your character into it. Also If your character is a member of the order they are subject to the rules of the Order.
Paladins are skilled but this is how I see them comparing to the other races.
~Physical~
Paladin V Human: Far outclasses the average human, only pausing at humans of extreme physical skill
Paladin V Dwarf: Far outclasses the average dwarf, only pausing at members who would show extreme or prodigious physical skill.
Paladin V Elf: Far outmatched. The dwarf will always lose to even a moderately skilled elf, an argument can be made that they would hold their own with a Elf of novice skill but this is unlikely
Paladin V Rider: Severely and utterly outmatched, The paladin stands no chance and should run away while possible.
[addendum] Even the paladin bastion follows these simple guidelines, while he may last longer against the more difficult opponents he is still far to outclassed
~magical~
Paladin V human: A paladin matches a human mage of moderate to slightly advanced skill. the paladin does not come close to a human who is extremely talented in the art.
Paladin V Dwarf: Far outclasses even the other masters of magic within the Dwarven race
Paladin V Elf: Far outmatched, Turn and flee while you can
Paladin V Rider: Again Far Far outmatched.
