Name: Morona
Age: 850
Race: Union
Sex: Male
Occupation: Royalty
allegiance: Their allegiance is to their people and to their people only, the Kingdom will always come first.
Physical Description:
8’5” His build is heavy and made entirely of muscle, and his form is still clearly human, making him somewhat frightening to behold. (By human standards at least)
His hair is a dirty blonde colour.
Looking at his face will confirm that while he looks mostly human he is anything but; his skin is a slightly paler tone than it should be and looks almost as if it was somehow forcefully drained of colour and seems almost perfectly sculpted, with unusually thin lips (it is obvious, however, that his current face was not originally that way.)
His eyes are green.
And looking at his eyes merely detracts from what humanity he may have, the eyes themselves are green completely, even where the whites should be, with his pupils little more than lizard like slits being the only variation of colour offered.
His form is almost always constantly covered with some kind of dark-metal armour which seems somehow similar to gold in texture, with a similar dark-metal chainmail suit beneath it. The most striking points of the armour, however, is not the material it is crafted from but rather what seem to be the “veins” of running light running up the forearms of the gauntlets and the small pointed claws that the tip of each finger is crafted into.
Also connected to the waist of the suit of armour is an ankle length black robe, held in place by several plates around the waist and legs.
Personality:
Morona is what most would deem to be an abomination, two separate beings inhabiting a single body that have achieved a “perfect Union”. There is no distinction between them, they are in effect a single entity where two once separately existed, they still acknowledge their former lives and will constantly refer to themselves as “We” as opposed to “I”, they are proud of their Union and make no effort whatsoever to keep it hidden from anyone, regardless of whether or not the people in question are ok with such a thing.
While they have people believing that they are allies Morona will publicly come across as a good monarch to their people and will always be looking to broaden their kingdoms horizons by offering other allied kingdoms their aid wherever possible in return for equality.
While they strive to be the best monarch possible for their people secretly Morona believe themselves to be superior to any and all creatures that have not achieved “Union” and will look down upon them with mild disdain regardless of their allied status, however, they will always appear to be pleasant and formal when among allies in order to keep their standing with them good. Regardless of whether or not they are above these said allies.
Above other humans and humanoid creatures Morona almost literally deem themselves as Gods, past actions have only served to bolster that ego, add that to their magical abilities and their ego almost literally knows no bounds. However, they are not blinded by their ego and will always put their kingdom ahead of their own goals, while they are under the firm belief that they are Gods they have no desire to conquer and merely wish to settle somewhere as far from Empire Nirvana as they can in order to keep their kingdom prosperous.
When their kingdom is threatened Morona will usually respond at first with a polite and formal option to leave and then send their armies out to defend the kingdom. And if they’re forced into action themselves then another side of their personality is seen entirely, the ruthless warrior that will mercilessly slaughter any enemy that gets in their way, during this time their ego is shown in full as they often berate their enemies for making the mistake of attacking a being that is their superior.
Morona is not a monarch that will hide behind armies alone and will sometimes fight for their kingdom (usually alone if it comes to that) as they are under the belief that if a monarch does not fight for their kingdom then they have no right to rule.
History:
-[40 years before Union]-
A baby is born in the midst of a war between two opposing kingdoms; the mother dies shortly after the birth, but lives long enough to name the child Morona. After that the father, a soldier of the defending kingdom is left to raise his son alone.
-[25 years before Union]-
Morona grows into a man, during the war fast approaching its end; he is trained daily by his father in combat and his aunt in the use of magic. In both he proves to be skilled, however, still a little too young to join the army his father begins to doubt that a life of war is the life he wants for his son, the two flee, his aunt offering to stay behind in order to ensure that the pair get away.
-[20 years before Union]-
Morona and his father joined a large underground movement of people whom had been affected by the war more than others; there Morona continued practice in magic and combat. He had been shocked to find that only he and perhaps five other people had magical abilities among the group but he and his father vehemently opposed the movement’s attempts to try and write Morona off as a healer, his abilities were better than that.
It had only taken several years after they abandoned their kingdom, however, the war had, had an adverse effect on the environment and famine had set in making food and water scarce. Due to that alone the war had ended when both monarchs had succumbed to a mysterious plague and died later on, the once proud nations had now been reduced to a disorganised rabble, former foes became allies and the struggle for survival set in.
They acted in desperation and decided that moving on was the only solution; they would have to invade demon territory to do it. The disorganised rabble became an alliance dedicated to their survival, those with combat and political experience were sent through first, Morona and his father included. Placed under his father’s command Morona had expected to be treated as everyone else and was happy that his expectations were met, his father was a good leader, and giving preferential treatment would not have kept an alliance together.
It was on the voyage that Morona befriended a fellow soldier of similar age called Solomon; the two were soon sharing jokes and generally increasing morale with laughter. The plan was to send the politicians in an attempt to negotiate a settlement agreement, and if that failed then they were to declare war immediately in an attempt to surprise and crush any resistance they met.
Their camp was distant and they were out of sight, however, when morning came it was immediately clear that something was wrong, a small army marched in their direction, carrying with them the bodies of the dead politicians and the small guard detail they had been sent in with. Following their orders they attacked on sight, catching their enemies off guard at first, but they were quick to regroup and retaliate, it was the worst Morona had ever felt. The Demon warriors far outclassed his fellow humans and The Demon mages were on a level Morona had been taught impossible in his years of training.
Things became desperate as they were slowly pushed back to their vessel, human deaths already nearing high double digits while the demons deaths had not even broken single digits. Even under the pressure Morona’s father continued giving orders, getting his men into the best positions possible and eventually they managed to get a foothold that prevented them from being pushed back further.
Just as things seemed to be at their worst something happened, Solomon and Morona’s father both managed a kill, The Demon Morona was fighting off looked back at the distraction which allowed Morona to use the speared end of his stave to impale the demon through the chin and then use the body to take out more of its kin.
Though weakened considerably from his effort Morona felt elation like no other when the cheer swept through their men and through that he got his second wind as the humans began their charge, while Solomon began distributing demonic weapons among the humans his father lead the front charge and Morona gathered the mages that they had left in order to pick off each demon mage individually, with their combined efforts the demon numbers were weakened drastically before their former confidence wavered and they were forced to retreat.
Victorious, message was sent back to their land, the enemy strength was far greater than they had imagined and the invasion would take longer than planned. Their people would be unable to wait for the invasion to end, by that time famine and plague would have taken them so they were forced to bring their non-combatants overseas while the invasion proceeded.
-[10 years before Union]-
The invasion was taking far too long, Morona and Solomon had both become good leaders and Morona’s father was now among one of the highest ranked people in the alliance. They had even garnered the support of Demons that wished for an end to the bloodshed and the harsh regimes of the demons powerful enough to have kingdoms. That addition to the alliance had been uneasy, but had provided a much needed ally in the war, the alliance now had access to demonic weaponry and their mages (Morona included) were slowly being tutored in the art of demonic magic, the one thing Morona had noticed, however, was that his limits with that kind of magic were much lower than they were with the magic he was accustomed to. This had placed the realisation on him as well as the other mages on just how powerful their foes were.
-[5 years before Union]-
Strong hideouts had been created at this point, allowing their non-combatants to live in relative safety, while people like Morona, his father and Solomon were kept on the move by the war. Very slowly they were making progress, but it was still not enough, a fact that was reinforced later that night when they were attacked. Despite his age Morona’s father was still a strong warrior, a grizzled veteran by this point and he fought well, issuing orders and moving closer and closer to victory. All it took was one rogue arrow and Morona felt his world drain away in a single moment of rage he was barely aware of the allied Demons moving to his aid, he cast a spell beyond his limits and everything went black.
He woke some time later with little to no memory of what had very nearly caused him to die, when he learned of his father’s death and of his reckless action to follow he felt himself go numb. It had taken very little of their allied Demons’ strength to keep him alive during his spell, but several of them to bring him back from the brink of death, but none of them had died in their efforts, Morona would have thanked them but his grief prevented even that.
-[4 years before Union]-
It took some time for Morona to overcome his grief and when he did finally make it back to the field Solomon had become a suitable replacement for his father, it was there and then and Morona vowed he would never see Solomon share his father’s fate.
-[1 day before Union]-
Their enemies were fighting back in full force and the offer had been made to both Solomon and Morona almost a week ago to undertake a potentially fatal ritual, if they survived they would obtain power that would rival even the strongest Demons, their options were running out, their enemies were drawing closer to their hidden bases housing the non-combatants, picking several promising warriors and mages each Solomon and Morona accepted the offer to bond with what they had previously labelled Demon “parasites”, the two of them were talked through what would happen on the day and were warned that their chances of survival were low, but they both knew the risks and brushed off the concern of their allies with an air indifference, this was a necessary risk, of that they had convinced themselves.
-[Pivotal point, the Union]-
Morona can never recall accurately what happened after his body was made host to the demon he had agreed to bond with, he just remembers a lot of pain and a voice. He had perfect recollection of his past right up until the point in which he blacked out with pain, but nothing before waking, and even then the time spent out of action meant little.
They were greeted with a concern that they had expected, but their survival had already put their allies at ease, and when asked their name they responded with the one they had agreed upon during the bonding process.
“We are Morona.”
The reaction from the human crowd was something they had also expected, the panicked outrage was amusing to Morona, but they had to keep their allies together the alliance would only fall apart despite the correct assertions from the demons that, that merely meant the bonding process had been successful.
“Please humans, we still retain the memories of your former Morona and we still wish to acknowledge our previous separate existences to show the depth of our unity now. Neither human nor demon, we have a perfect union and we shall ensure that your war is won with our aid.”
That had pleased the masses, though Morona was still able to see that some of them had their doubts, which much like their fear was amusing to them.
It took another couple of hours for Solomon to wake and much like Morona they seemed to have agreed to keep their past name, which was good it would make them easier for the alliance to recognise.
Every other person that had previously been selected by Morona and Solomon did not survive the bonding process; they had been made aware of the risk and made the decision to participate anyway. Morona did not mourn the loss, but they were able to tell that it had hit Solomon hard; perhaps this was a good thing.
Within months after becoming a Union Morona and Solomon stood before their final target, the war fast coming to an end as their troops stormed the final demonic stronghold. The war ended several weeks later once their castle fell, and as Morona and Solomon stood alone history was set on course with one act.
“History is little more than a complex web of lies, written by the victor to ensure that their immortalisations make them look good.”
The war had ended and the invading forces had won, while Morona had ended up becoming a relatively placid and generally accepting Union Solomon had become a manipulative and power hungry Union. They had tried to convince Morona that people would need a common enemy in order to strive and move forward, they believed themselves to be perfection. While Morona agreed that they were perfection, Morona did not agree with what Solomon was saying, their debate continued. Solomon’s arguments slowly becoming more and more convincing until they attacked, no choice offered, no chance to run, Morona fought back.
The fight was extreme; however, in the end Solomon was victorious and with the help of several demon mages, managed to seal Morona in a rift between the material world and another dimension entirely, unable to act, unable to think, merely able to watch as time clawed by very slowly.
”We had allowed Solomon to defeat us because of our previous vow to them; their betrayal and victory against us would become the fuel that kept us going throughout the years spent in exile until eventually. Our power was greater than those whom had bound us and we were able to escape, Solomon had proved to be a fine ruler, the empire they had built was impressive by any standards. But, we would keep our vow, we were the better Union, we turned and left them to their ill-gained rule.”
They spent some years travelling this “Empire Nirvana”, learning what they could about what many had called a “paradise”. Of course, that was the description of those living in ignorance; Morona had seen the black areas of The Empire and had deemed that to be some of the shadiest goings-on they had ever seen. It was just as dangerous as it had been when it had first been invaded, perhaps even more so now that Human and Demon were working side-by-side.
“We had learned much on the immortalisation Solomon had created for us, a despicable traitor that sold the invasion out to the ruling demons in an effort to gain greater power, and with no-one around to dispute that claim it had become an accepted historical fact. History had come to know us as ‘Nemesis Morona’, despite the lie surrounding the title it pleased us greatly to hear it, we were Nemesis Morona.”
They spent some years travelling Empire Nirvana, slowly gaining a following (mostly consisting of people that had fled the law of Nirvana and fled to the previous hidden hideaways of the non-combatants during the war.)
Morona offered them a better life outside of this Empire, offered them a place within their own kingdom. Many accepted, few stayed, determined to become a kingless mass. They were not going to allow that to happen, using their magical abilities Morona put them into a state similar to the state suffered during their entrapment within the rift and had them transported as cargo by his willing followers. The kingless could not be allowed freedom they did not deserve, Morona did not agree with what Solomon had done, but they could appreciate what they had managed to accomplish since.
The kingless were taken as slaves, a legal practice within Empire Nirvana and Morona continued to travel from hideout-to-hideout, gaining more followers and more slaves as they progressed.
As they approached the final hideout they bore witness to an amazing sight, a single man fought off ten of Solomon’s best soldiers armed with nothing more than a broken bottle and a blunt knife, this man’s name was Kaime and despite his youth Morona took him as their “Right Hand” their chosen Elite, Kaime pledged his undying loyalty to Morona in the ancient language (further impressing them) as a result and soon had all others at the hideout willingly following Morona.
“In the days to follow we used our power to summon a beast that would willingly bear the burden we requested of it and procured ourselves the finest equipment possible. Not only for us, but for our ‘Right Hand’, for our army and for our people, we constructed a large city that would sit upon the back of our willing beast. Which we would dismiss upon the completion of our journey and find new lands to settle on, we would live in prosperity without endangering the peace of Empire Nirvana.”
Throughout the journey Morona taught their people many things, creating a new civilisation that would be capable of settling anywhere. Now the time draws near that they will find new land, and a new place to call home.
Notes:
The Solomon mentioned in Morona’s character history is the Emperor that Solomon Latro named himself after.
Morona’s voice is deep and powerful, yet they almost constantly speak in a tone that seems to suggest by itself that the act of speaking takes a lot of effort.
It should also be noted that Morona lacks the accent of his native land and does not speak in his native language.
While a powerful mage Morona will do everything in their power to make allies, not enemies, it is also rare that they will leave their kingdom unless their presence is required elsewhere.
Morona will usually send Kaime to aid people in large gatherings as a show of good faith.
