Name: Ace Vauxx –[Pronounced: VOX]-
Age: 16
Race: Human
Sex: Male
Occupation: N/A
Allegiance: His Brother
Physical Description:
5’9” Ace is of average build, neither too skinny nor too fat, nor is there very much muscle to him. He is average in every sense of the word in terms of his height and build.
In fact, there isn’t much that stands out about Ace; he looks as one might expect an average teenage boy to look, just old enough to begin developing into his adulthood, but still too young to have any real defining features about him. His hair is a light black colour with dark brown streaks running through it, and usually hangs in relatively unkempt curtains down the side of his head.
The most and probably only distinguishing thing about Ace is his eyes, his right eye is a dark shade of green while his left eye is a lighter shade of amber (this is natural), physically this is the only real distinguishing feature that Ace has.
In terms of attire Ace usually opts to wear plain, every-day clothing and is generally very relaxed in his dress sense, preferring to keep himself able to blend in with a crowd over dressing to impress... Or, just generally dressing in a sense he thinks of as “strange”.
Personality:
Ace acts as one may expect a very typical teenager to act; he is relatively care-free and generally doesn’t take very many situations seriously. Coupled with the very typical brashness of his youth, Ace can sometimes come off as arrogant and foolhardy. This however, is more down to his inexperience and young age.
Despite his very casual dress-sense Ace loves being the center of attention and enjoys showing off and letting people see what he can do with Pyromancy. He is very well aware that he is a prodigy at the art of Pyromancy and that tends to fuel his ego when he is showing off, which tends to cause him to try even harder to show off.
Ace is of average intelligence, difficult to insult, but easy to silence verbally. As if to add to that, he is highly susceptible to flattery and will tend to fall to stroking his ego with just a single (sometimes even modest) compliment. And oftentimes tends to fall to self-flattery for even the smallest piece of praise, he is not modest, however, once more this is down to his inexperience.
Beneath all the self-confidence, and brash teenage arrogance, however, Ace is very aware of his abilities. Linked as he is to the art of Pyromancy Ace has to keep exactly what he does very firmly in mind and remain quietly fearful of his abilities so as not to kill himself when he uses his power. While he would never admit this, the side of him that loves the praise and the ability to show off is his way of coping with the enforced fear of his own abilities.
Ace also has a deep-seated, unconditional love for his older brother, Baldur. He would kill for his brother, and he would die for his brother, no task is too great and no sacrifice is too much, the call of blood takes priority over all else. He would never leave his brother.
Pyromancy:
Pyromancy is the oldest form of magic Human specialisation magic, developed during The Turning War. The Pyromancer-to-be undergoes a magical procedure that alters their body’s ability to cast magic, and subsequently forces the “mage” to specialise. Pyromancy was the most successful result of the procedure, other branches of similarly specialised magic were deemed to impractical to continue with any further.
Pyromancers effectively sacrifice the versatility of magic for nearly unmatched destructive power, requiring less energy to use than standard magic, which also does not require the use of the ancient language to use at all. However, there is a further downside.
Pyromancers must always live with, in the very least a slight fear of their power. Pyromancers first conjure a small flame in their palms before using their power; these flames are a physical manifestation of their body’s magical energy and thus allow both the creation and control of fire. If during their creation the Pyromancer puts too little energy into conjuring these flames, they will extinguish and the Pyromancer will die. While, on the other end of the spectrum, if the Pyromancer puts too much energy into conjuring these flames, they will start creating fire uncontrollably and thus run a very high risk of destroying themselves in the process.
(That is not to say that, putting too much energy into the conjuration of these flames is a bad thing, master-level Pyromancers use it as a means of attack.)
Overall, Pyromancy is a relatively primitive, yet still highly, complex discipline of magic, which still requires years of intensive study and training to even become competent at. Once they reach that point however, they are capable of some truly wondrous things within the limitations of their speciality.
History:
Ace’s earliest memories are that of his Brother, Baldur. For as long as Ace can remember it’s just been him and Baldur, not, that it ever bothered Ace, he loves his Brother after all. But, Baldur has always made it a point to tell Ace that he was the one whom killed their mother, while saddened that he would never get to know his mother, Baldur had also made it a point to explain to Ace that she would not have been a good parent. And although he found it difficult, he accepted his Brother’s reasons; Baldur had never treated Ace poorly.
Ace and Baldur had spent most of Ace’s life on the run, Baldur explaining that many warriors were out for his blood having killed his father, Warlord Vauxx. However, they were lucky enough to find refuge within a secluded monastery inhabited by an order of Pyromancers. They were allowed their refuge in return for Baldur’s services as a guardian, this left Ace with a lot of free time on his hands. It was at the age of 7 that Ace became a Pyromancer himself.
Ace’s brother was not happy with his decision, but had said that it was his decision to make. They remained at the monastery for a further three years, Ace rapidly pulling ahead of his peers in the art of Pyromancy.
At the age of ten a full-scale attack was launched on the monastery by an army (Baldur had confirmed them to be the remnants of Warlord Vauxx’s army.) and despite his insistence that the monastery be evacuated, the Pyromancers remained behind to defend their home while giving Ace and Baldur leave to flee. Neither of them were happy about it, however, both Ace and Baldur placed the highest priority on their own lives and fled.
They met Nemesis Morona several days later, and despite Baldur’s distrust of the man joined the group that were willingly following him. The time spent following was largely dull and uneventful, allowing Ace to practice his Pyromancy in silence under the watchful eye of his brother. Other than leaving Empire Nirvana a short while later very little has happened since.
Notes:
Ace is actually only Baldur’s half-brother, however, neither of them bother with the term, they are Brother’s, no matter how many parents they share.
Ace is a Pyromancy prodigy, capable of conjuring his “casting-flames” with ease, and does not have to fear killing himself. However, he isn’t even considered an Adept yet.
Pyromancers are intended to be back-line units, using their raw power to pound armies into submission while the other units position themselves. While Pyromancy is a dying art, it is still considered an essential part of any army in Empire Nirvana.
Vauxx was the name of Baldur’s father, and Ace has no idea why Baldur insists that he carry that name, but, he isn’t bothered by it.
The history is lacking due to Ace having done very little, the intention is that he will gain much more history through RP as opposed to having a huge history at creation.
