[Hydromancy]
Hydromancy was created during The Preclusion War. It was first created by the Non-Humans to oppose the creation of pyromancy. Pyromancy proved to be a challenge for the Non-humans during The Preclusion War and the idea of using fire’s direct opposite as a form of attack proved a good idea at the beginning.
Hydromancy is a branch of pyromancy that uses the internal fluids and water in the body to attack and protect oneself. Similar to pyromancy, the hydromancer-to-be undergoes a magical procedure that alters the body’s ability to cast magic, forcing the mage to specialise. Hydromancers sacrifice the versatility of magic allowing for an unmatched use of substances, requires less energy than standard magic, and does not require the use of the ancient language. However, there is a downside to hydromancy that is the reason it was deemed too impractical to continue researching.
The body’s compositional structure is only 79% water. As one ages, the percentage of water in the body decreases. With aging, the chances of performing hydromancy with internal fluids and water decreases as well. A hydromancer must always be aware of how much internal fluids they use. Being able to use any form of internal fluid, tapping into certain sources and using too much may lead to serious consequences such as blood loss, dehydration, stomach ulcers, blood clots, etc, depending entirely on the source drawn from.
Differing from pyromancy, there is no minimum amount of energy required to perform magic. Pyromancers must be aware of how much energy is placed into conjuring flames as too little energy will cause their flame to go out and will die. Hydromancers have an advantage in that aspect as there is no minimum amount of energy required to conjuring their water, just a maximum. The more energy is placed into conjuring the water, the more water is used up during the spell.
Theoretically, as a hydromancer evolves and advances their abilities, they can harness external sources to aid in conjuring their fluids. Once at such a stage, only the bare minimum of internal fluid is required to access the external source. The internal fluids interact and merge with the external fluid sources and like running water, synchronise into one source. Doing so has little ill effect on the individual as only a minimal amount of internal fluid is used.
(I say theoretically since no one was supposed to continue with hydromancy after it was deemed too impractical.)
It is also correct to assume that a hydromancer may draw external sources into their body to replenish their internal sources. Only highly skilled hydromancers are capable of doing such a thing. It requires a large amount of energy to transform external fluid sources into the required internal sources. Changing water to blood—for example—is also a highly painful practice and is rarely performed. If performed incorrectly, the hydromancer may end up killing themselves.
[Appearance]
Height: 5’11”
Body type: Slim
Weight: 144 lbs
Eye color: burnt orange
Hair color: Silver
Ethnicity: Nirvanian
Overall Appearance:
Okena is considered very pretty. With silver strands of hair that goes down to her lower back, she has it pulled out of her eyes with a deep blue ribbon. Her eyes are a cross between a burnt orange and caramel colour. She has a distinguishable and prominent nose from her father, although not as bulbous as his. With thin lips, she is always wearing a smile about her features.
Okena likes to dress rather casually. She has a pale magenta tunic that extends to mid thigh in the front and past her knees in the back with a stand pouch bag around her waist. The bag is magical and was received as a form of payment for her performances. The bag is magically enhanced to be bottomless. She could put anything of any size and any amount in and the pouch would never grow bigger or smaller.
She wears a long deep blue scarf around her neck and black gloves over her arms. Black tights and lace-up boots complete her look with daggers hidden in her boots for protection. She also wears two bracelets on her right hand that belonged to her mother, the only thing she has of her.
Okena is rather tall for a girl. She stands at 5’11”, nearly six feet tall. Even among the female elves in Alagaesia, she is tall in comparison. Her feet are rather large due to her father’s species and she has to have custom made boots.

Okena is a friendly person. She tends to slack off at times, not wanting to put effort into pointless things. She isn’t very good at school work and excels at individual practice when it comes to her hydromancy. She can be stubborn at times when she believes that she is right and can be determined when she sets her mind to it. Overall she likes to be alone although prefers company when she can find it. She is a fun loving person and likes to have a good time.
Being raised by her father without any female influence, she is very much like a tomboy. She doesn’t know much about how to be feminine. Although she knows the gist of what it means to be a girl, she has no idea what it’s like to date or be interested in boys. She is rather focused now of perfecting her art and decided that she doesn’t have time to look at boys.
[History]
Father: Wynn Johyrk—deceased
Mother: Human woman, name unknown—deceased
Detailed History:
Okena’s father was once a nobleman in Empire Nirvana. Being a prominent figure in their society, he was held with respect within their community. He came from one of the smaller isles surrounding Empire Nirvana.
It was years after he had become leader of his isle when famine and plague overcame the land that the humans were living on. They approached the non-human land to plead with the non-humans to allow them to settle on their land. However, the false gods, whom they worshipped, had said no and killed the politicians that had been sent in the place of the people. That’s when the war first started.
At first the war was one like any other. People joined sides and fought one another. However, there was an uprising between those who worshipped the false gods and those who didn’t. Those who didn’t worship the false gods eventually joined sides with the humans. It was about six to seven years into the war when pyromancy was created. It was a process created by the non-humans and allowed the humans to wield and use magic stronger than anything they had been able to use up until this point.
The pyromancy proved to be a difficult weapon to oppose and leaders who still worshipped the false gods were called upon to come up with an opposition to the pyromancers. It was then that Wynn left his isle and joined the war with an active effort. Before being summoned, the isle knew about the war but hadn’t taken sides in the war.
Now that Wynn and others had been given the task of finding something to oppose pyromancy, it was then that they created hydromancy. Wynn had been the leading researcher on the subject at the time and became obsessed with the idea. Upon testing and performing the hydromancy, the non-humans found it difficult to control the water and the side effects of using bodily fluids to be too overbearing. Just when Wynn was about to announce a breakthrough in hydromancy, the false gods and other non-humans deemed the practice to be too impractical to continue researching.
Devastated that he hadn’t been able to announce his breakthrough with connecting with external water sources, he was pushed aside and back to his isle. Even with his persistence to tell the people about his discovery, he was soon cast aside and a new leader was elected on the isle.
The war ended with the false gods being killed and many wanted to leave it at that. Many still worshipped the false gods, however, wanted an end to the war and left well enough alone.
Even though he wasn’t the leader of his isle any more, Wynn still tried to get people’s attention about hydromancy, stating that it could be as strong as pyromancy. People thought him to have gone insane during the war, he was pretty much avoided after the war ended. It was then that he went into seclusion, silently working and expanding his hydromancy abilities in secret.
During his years in seclusion, he discovered even more about hydromancy. He was able to harness external sources of water with minimal energy to do so. He grew envious of how pyromancy grew to be a wide spread ability and source of power among many in Empire Nirvana.
Many years later, as he grew older and his hydromancy started to fail him, as did his health, he decided he need to continue this method or else it would be lost forever. There wasn’t anyone practising the technique as he had and he couldn’t bear to think of what would happen if it died with him.
Having the idea to have children and pass the secret on to them, Wynn found a human woman on the isle and impregnated her. During the pregnancy, he behaved well, never once practising his hydromancy in fear that it may drive the woman away. He treated her well, even thinking that after the birth of their child, that he may be able to share his secret with her. However, he wouldn’t be able to share his secret for a while as the woman died during child birth.
Having no idea how to raise a child, Wynn did the best he could to raise Okena. She doesn’t have any bad memories with her father, always wanting his praise and happiness. If Wynn told Okena that something would make him happy, then she would do her best to make him smile. It was then that Wynn discovered at a young age, that he could make Okena his hydromancer.
Okena was only four when she underwent the process of becoming a hydromancer. Her father had developed the method and technique of allowing the body to use its fluids as expendables during combat and had no problem performing the act on his daughter. It proved fruitful though since she was experienced in the art at a young age and had a natural talent for the art. She was his precious prodigy.
It was many years later when Okena was twenty when she was practising her hydromancy outside in the rain and people saw her. They approached her father, claiming that he still worshipped the false gods by teaching and performing such an act on his daughter and chased them out of Empire Nirvana.
Finding Alagaesia, her father and Okena set up a farm along the coast in one of the small villages. They had the best crops in the area and people came from all over to trade with them. It was mainly because they used hydromancy to make sure their crops were always watered that allowed such a bountiful harvest every year.
However, all good things must end when Okena’s father passed away. Losing interest in the farm, Okena decided that she would travel around the area and discover what she could.
She is currently a traveller who makes money in the form of performing.[/blockquote]
