Name: Varden
Age: 154
Race: Dragon
Occupation: Rider – Council of Resources
Allegiance: Taured and Ilirea
Appearance:
As a hatchling, Varden looked like an adorable ball of green flesh. With short, chubby legs, a chubby stub for a tail, a round face and a short neck, he was a little bigger than an average, full-grown house cat. There had been doubt that he would become a strong dragon. With many facial expressions, Varden was always a surprise. He can mask his emotions from others, but can’t hide his feelings when with Taured. When concerned, worried, or anxious, when it comes to Taured’s well-being, all facades disappear. However, over years, he is better at keeping his worry and fears from his features.
He grew up quickly and became the strong dragon he is today. Varden is a tall and lean dragon. His body resembles that of a hound dog, gracing him with hidden muscles and great agility. His wings span 14 feet and he stands at 8 feet tall. He is Persian green in colour but has darker shaded: horns, wings, talons, chest/underbelly, and blue scales down his back. With bright blue-green eyes, he is a beauty to behold. His snout is long and distinguished, allowing him to look innocent and gentle. However, his lips pull back to show his sharp teeth, also allowing him to be fierce as well as gentle.
Unlike other dragons, Varden doesn’t have large scales covering most of his body. Instead he has rather small scales covering his body that allow him greater agility and flexibility. The small scales can stop most weapons but aren’t as strong as regular scales are. The flesh membrane of his wings starts out a dark Persian green and fades out until it is almost see-through.
Personality:
Varden finds justice appealing to him. He chose Taured because he knows that he has a level head and will do the right thing. Ever since Varden was taken here, he has wanted to do good. The rider that had convinced his dam of letting them go had given him the hope and desire to bond with someone like him. He is very hopeful that they can make a difference. He opposes the idea of war, thinking that the humans and elves are annoying at times, but not enough to kill them.
Varden is a rather sociable dragon. He finds comfort in having someone around. Most of the time it is just himself and Taured, which doesn’t bother him. But he likes meeting new people as well. Varden wants to meet new people because he believes that not all of them are evil. The elves may have killed his dam and many others of his kind, but they couldn’t all be bad. If they had all been bad, then why did Taured have such a strong sense of right and wrong?
Varden is a playful dragon at times. He enjoys playing games and flying. When Taured is riding, he finds it especially funny to make him worry about falling off, the height they’re at or even when he does fancy moves that makes Taured sick to his stomach. He enjoys reading with Taured, especially when Taured reads aloud to him. He has a creative mind and is curious about new things. Part of the reason that he agreed to accepting this spot on the council is because they get to meet new people and learn new things. Even though many are hostile towards them because of the divide, it won’t make a difference when they try to promote peace. They will continue to try to spread good in spite of prejudice.
History:
Varden was laid during Du Fyrn Skulblaka. His sire, Styrkr, fought in the war against the elves while his dam, Hylli, kept watch over the eggs and defended their territory. Styrkr was a large, deep green dragon who was fierce and strong among many of the wild dragons. Hylli was gentle and graceful. She was also very protective and territorial. Her grace made her the best defender of their area. Varden loved Hylli very much, always enjoying the stories and memories she would share with them of defending and fighting.
It was close to the end of the war when a group of elves ambushed Hylli. She fought hard against the elves, killing most of them. It was then that one of the remaining elves tried to steal her eggs that she lost focus and was wounded. Not willing to go down that easily and have her babies taken from her, she used the last of her strength to kill the last of the ambushers.
Worried for her, Varden tried to get out of his egg, but she assured him that it would be alright. While she lay there dying, it was then that another elf appeared. Growling, as it was her only defence left, she saw the dragon with the elf. The Rider conversed with Hylli, knowing that she was going to die. Assuring her that her eggs would be taken somewhere safe where they could find someone who would appreciate and bond with them, she reluctantly gave them away.
The Rider carted Varden with the rest of his brethren off to the Sacred Font. It was there that he waited for his rider to come along. At first, he would be taken out for children to touch his egg and bond with a dragon, but no one was right for him. He knew that he wanted someone honourable who had a good sense of right and wrong. All the children that touched his egg were looking for glory and power; they wanted nothing more for any dragon to hatch for them. Varden shied away from the thought of bonding with them.
When it came time for the next celebration, Varden had been left behind with the older eggs. The problem was that he wasn’t an old egg that didn’t want to hatch. Feeling forgotten and sad, he sat with the forgotten eggs for many years. During his time at the back, he practiced sensing peoples’ personalities from simple things. He would only receive small pieces of information, since they weren’t directly touching his egg, nor within close vicinity of his egg. Years passed and he started to give up hope.
Varden wasn’t paying much attention when Taured had entered the Font. He had been thinking of Hylli and how she died. He didn’t even know if his sire had lived, he was out fighting the war when she died. That’s when the feeling came closer. There was someone approaching him, someone was coming to the back of the Font. He tried to read the person but it seems that he was thinking too much of something sorrowful. When the boy touched his egg, Varden searched Taured’s mind, it was in that instant that he found his justice. He chose Taured because ever since he was taken from his dying dam, he knew that he wanted someone as good and righteous as the rider who had given compromise. He had chosen the name Varden because he knew that he wanted to protect his kind the way his dam had.
Hatching right after the touch, he found Taured passed out on the floor. He tried to wake the boy up but couldn’t do anything. Lying down next to him, he decided to take a nap; maybe the boy would be awake when he was done napping. Soon someone else woke them both up and Varden was thrilled. At first things were a little awkward. Taured wasn’t used to having someone else sharing his mind. Varden wasn’t bothered by it, he found it interesting being able to see things not only from his point of view, but also from Taured’s feelings, and soon words and thoughts.
They were inseparable, something Taured referred to as brothers. Accepting the word and relationship, they grew closer. When it was almost time to finish their training, they were offered a spot as elder teachers. Varden always questioned why Taured denied the offer. He thought that teaching new riders would be a great idea. However, he did understand how Taured didn’t find how he could keep peace that way.
When the blue divide started, Varden was thrilled to be offered another chance at being an elder. When he found out that they would be on the Council instead of teaching, he was a little confused by the idea. When Taured explained to him that they would be scouting for new races, gifted humans and more, Varden eagerly agreed to taking the position.
Ever since, they have been travelling together and finding new things.
Rp Example: (I’m gonna do another one )
He was tired. After spending yesterday in the forest, flying far to reach the mountains based on a lead, to find nothing, Varden was tired. They had camped out in the mountains, which was a change. Usually they would find a cave, or Taured would make some kind of bedding for the both of them. Since there wasn’t much in the mountains to use for bedding or such things, they had slept on the rocks. It wasn’t that comfortable and he would rather not do it again.
Taured was currently sitting on Varden’s back. They were flying over the desert and had at least a good day and a half of flight away from Ilirea. It wasn’t as if he hadn’t done long distance flying before. After years of roaming all of Alagaesia, he was used to it. But for some reason, Varden had this nagging feeling that he had to land to rest. ”Taur, I feel we need to stop. Trust me,” ”Are you sure? I trust you,” Looking around their current area, he saw the rock formations up ahead. Rock formations littered the entire desert. If anyone were passing through the desert with any intention of harm, they wouldn’t find them in there. ”The formations should be safe,” Without any approval needed, Varden landed safely in the formations.
Climbing off his back, he came around and plopped down on the ground.”What’s wrong?” He was worried for Varden, it wasn’t like him to need to rest. ”I don’t know, I just have a feeling.” Varden started to wander off, looking through the rock formations. If he had a feeling, it was best to follow him. Standing up, Taured brushed sand from his pants and followed the Persian dragon. He was looking around the formations, thinking they resembled other objects when he walked into Varden’s side. He was about to ask him why he had stopped when he heard it. It was a growling coming from just up ahead. Moving in front of Varden, there was another dragon. Hunched to the ground, teeth barred, Taured had the urge to back away slowly. Varden shook his head to the idea and pressed the thought of talking to the wild dragon. Taured couldn’t believe what Varden was thinking! This was dangerous. They could both be badly injured.
”Back off! Go away you bonded disgrace,” The dragon hadn’t spoken to Taured but directly to Varden; since their minds were bonded, he still heard what she had to say. The wild dragon looked like she was protecting eggs; an even better reason for them to leave. Varden continued to press the thought of talking to the dragon. He believed that maybe they could convince her into donating one of her eggs. Taured’s jaw practically dropped. Varden had never done this before and he had never been so firm on something like this. ”Are you crazy Varden? She doesn’t look like she wants to donate anything. We should just leave and apologise.”
He looked around cautiously. Not much was known about wild dragons. Sometimes they travelled in pairs but sometimes they didn’t. All that mattered was that this dragon was far stronger than they were and she didn’t look friendly. Varden started to walk toward the dragon, lying on the ground not more than 10 feet from her. She stood up at that moment, her wings stretching their full span as she barred her teeth, a demon-like scowl on her features. Taured feared what was happening, questioning why Varden was doing this. ”Because it’s not always wrong. We can be free and my kind needs to know” Sighing, Taured remained where he was, not willing to get any closer to the dragon. He would watch and see what happened. Hopefully, they would leave with their lives.
