Please take a glance around here for any questions you may have. You may also request that new ones be added. =)
What is this site's rating?
We're sitting at a maximum of PG-13. This means that you can mention things such as gore, sex, and drug use in passing, and even build up a scene with them. i.e. a sex scene, consensual or not, can be described right up to the 'main event', which you'll need to skip over. XD
What skill level is demanded for RPing?
Length is of no concern to us here. As long as you can scrounge up one hundred words per post, and pay attention to spelling and grammar, we'll happily accept the newest of RPers as well as highly advanced ones. Most members here are hovering around intermediate.
Where are the canons?
BecauseI'm lazy we don't want the main plot resting on any one character, there are none. Elven and Broddring royalty, as well as the Rider Grandmaster, are mere staff-controlled NPCs. As a sort of replacement, we have an Occupations list you'll find in this very board, detailing what kind of character you can be on AoR.
Why can only elves be Riders?
I get this one a lot, although I'm pretty sure it was detailed in the books. Humans were not allowed to become Riders for quite some time, and when they finally did, it ended with the Riders being banished to Vroengard. A great deal of this site's plot revolves around this racial tension. Humans will certainly eventually be able to become Riders with the unravelling of the main plot. However, due to only humans and elves being included into the pact, no other race will ever be accepted as Riders.
Can I make my own faction?
Yes and no. The factions detailed in the Codex are official ones- Broddring, Ilirea, and Du Weldenvarden are nations. The Hive basically controls Du Weldenvarden, and the Hand essentially controls Broddring. These are the five biggest powers in all of Alagaësia, and we don't want to be one of those sites with fifty different factions and only two characters in each one. You can, however, make your own faction in Character Corner, the sub-board of RP Discussion, and invite people to join it. However, it will not be considered official or have much sway in the main plots unless it becomes rabidly popular.
Am I required to be allied to a faction?
Due to very little activity in the factions, especially in the Hand of Leona, we are only allowing ONE 'loner' per member. Yes, they're cool, but frankly, guys, they're not unique in the least. XD You can make a character start out as a loner, but it's really preferable that they eventually, through RP, get to joining a faction.
Are certain characters in demand or banned?
Shockingly, none. Elves and humans are totally equal, and we actually have a slight surplus of males, which NEVER happens!
Where can I post to increase my post count?
Quite simply, RP. Posting in any board will have an effect on your post count. Once you have twenty-five posts, you're free to apply for a dragon. =)
Do we have a main plot?
Sort of. For about six months the staff tried to have MP threads, but they never worked out, ever. We tried limiting the amount of people who could join, getting members to be more active participants, and a whole number of other things and they just ended up being a hassle to staff and members alike and very nearly a site-killer. So, no, we definitely aren't having any more formal MP threads. Instead, about every four months the staff will post an announcement that will change the setting somewhat, and you can RP it and react to it however you please. =)
That's it for now. Check back occasionally for new or altered questions and answers. ^^
