To make things easier when picking an occupation for your character, we have devised a list! We have arranged this list into three categories- primaries, secondaries, and tertiaries. There are NO CANONS on this site, although see the list below for Inheritance characters.
- Primaries are very important positions such as the Broddring king and the elven queen. Due to their power, they are controlled by staff ONLY as NPCs.
- Secondaries are characters in positions of power such as high military rankings, city counts, or are otherwise close to the primaries. You may have one secondary character for every two tertiaries.
- Tertiaries are everyone else, pretty much, but this doesn’t make them at all unimportant. Their number is unlimited so you can have as many as you please. You can also pick an occupation that we’ve left out of the list if you want; it’s just there to help members pick for their characters.
- Hardly any characters in the books were alive at this point, and most that were are much less powerful than in canon Inheritance. We’d be very happy to have a pre-Rider Oromis, a little Islanzadí, and all that, although people like Angela and Solembum and Mauve will be considered secondaries.
THE PRIMARIES:
King Azuan Angrenost- The son of Palancar, he’s in his forties, the king of Broddring, and has struggled with war and a crazy dad for the past forty years of his life. He’s also yet unmarried, but he can certainly have mistresses.
Queen Dellanir Dröttning- the elven queen, and very young. Queen Dellanir has long suffered distaste at court for being from a near-commoner background and then being far, far too young for King Vänskä Könungr, the hereditary ruler of Du Weldenvarden, when he took her as his mate on the eve of the Blue Divide. He died a mere twenty years later, leaving her to rule and raise their son alone. The powerful Houses are constantly in a deadlock concerning her and her son Evandar Könungru, who is rumoured to be illegitimate, and the Game largely revolves around her. The biggest rumour of all, however, details her apparent dealings with the Hive.
Grandmaster Anurin Sarethi- the Rider grandmaster. Anurin isn’t the oldest Rider, but was picked by Eragon due to his intelligence and powerful sense of right and wrong. Head-to-head with his dragon after a traumatic event shook her during the Divide, he struggles with the battle against the Urgals and maintaining peace throughout Alagaësia.
Grandmaster Almalexia- it’s kinda funny how despite them being über-powerful, Paolini rarely names any historical dragons or even mentions their genders. XD Anurin’s dragon has a vehement relationship with her Rider brought on by a traumatizing event during the Blue Divide.
THE SECONDARIES:
Nobility- Due to the fact that Alagaësia is really, really small, we’re not having dukes or earls or marquises and all that just because we don’t have the space. The highest position underneath royalty is the count of a city. However, all cities have a myriad of important families that get rich in various ways and struggle for power with their rulers.
High military rankings- Both Broddring and elven.
Riders and their dragons- These must be specially applied for! See Ilirea’s dragon hatching sub-board for more details.
City Counts and Countesses- rulers of cities and their surrounding counties, obviously. Details on each city and what kind of ruler it probably has- corrupt, powerless, etc. is found in each city’s board description.
Faction leaders and high-ranking members- This information is found in each faction’s personal thread.
The favoured ones- The most loved and trusted lover/spy/assassin/servant of a member of the royal family has definite power.
THE TERTIARIES:
Minor nobles- Consorts, diplomats, barons, nobility in the poor house, basically people who are in the presence of power but don’t actually have any of their own.
Average or low-ranking faction members- See the individual factions for details.
Magic users- Healers, sorcerers, witches and warlocks, all that fun stuff. Please keep in mind that magic is much rarer among humans than among elves, and those human children discovered with magical abilities are taken to the Riders for training. All elven children train in magic underneath them as well.
Secret warriors- The like of spies, assassins, and saboteurs.
Servants or slaves- Anyone from a lowly cook to an expensive courtesan.
Criminals- Thieves, murderers, con men, etc.
Average or low-ranking soldiers- Both Broddring and elven.
Merchants, craftsmen and men of the earth- Boring, but jobs nonetheless. XD
Travellers- They could be fugitives, wanderers, traders, and whatnot.
