Name:
Edan Valaician
Age:
45
Race:
Human
Occupation:
Human Commanding General of the Army and Sentinel of the Hand of Leona
Allegiance:
Broddring
Physical Description:
A man of middle ages, Edan is about 5’9” tall and a lean, mean 178 pounds in weight. He has light green eyes and common dark brown colored hair with some gray near the roots from age that is cropped at a slightly longer than regulation length. His skin is rough and leathery from years of grime and sweat and muck and his skin is sun-tanned. He stands straight with amazing posture for a human, taught both through training and practice. He often wears a simple shirt and pant combination, his pants made from fine leather that seems fairly worn in and his shirt a simple cloth shirt with a few patches in the sides and back, originally a deep red color but slightly faded from use. He has leather boots to top it all off that are well maintained but obviously worn in for comfort. On his hips there is a belt of simple materials and hanging off that belt is an exquisite scabbard holding a longsword of superior craftsmanship, his preferred weapon and one weapon that has been with him for decades. He generally has a gruff but comradely nature that seems a bit hard to those who don’t know him, but does not seem menacing to the general public.
Personality:
Edan is a very dedicated man. He has lived his life in dedication to the art of combat. He has lived his life in dedication to his country. He has lived his life in dedication to his comrades, and he has lived his life in dedication to his family. He has even dedicated his life to the Hand of Leona, the state religion, and has achieved Sentinel level. Edan is very calm most of the time because he has weathered most extremes of life, so what can something as small as this do that the rest hasn’t tried? His battle experiences and his experiences with civilians have lead him to be very confident in his abilities, along with a lot of training, and approves when he sees confidence in others. As a father, he tried to teach confidence and values as every parent does and seems to have succeeded so far. He is a very good man to have at your side, as he will try everything he can to help you out of a bind and keep your spirits up. He generally is quiet in public but generally lightens up with friends and family in private. He runs things with strict but reasonable discipline after years of practice, trying to find an equilibrium between allowing creativity and flexibility and the discipline required in any organization.
He likes routine in his life, waking with his dear wife, going to his private training arena outside of Carvala, training with his weapons, checking the office for important matters, training until he is really tired, teaching his sons (although that job is no longer his), going home, washing off, eating dinner with his wife, speak to her of their day, and go to sleep with her. There are few things that can disrupt that routine of normal life for him that bothers him. Reassignment is taken fine, and Edan takes all chances to join tournaments that occur, no matter where in Broddring they occur. Other than that, interuptions can throw him off for a bit, although he almost always catches himself.
His soft spot is definitely his wife, and his children although his children less so because they are grown by now if just barely in one case. Touch his family and he will bend to your will. Kill his family and he will kill yours, and you. Nothing can stop him from providing for them, and making them happy.
History:
Edan was born to Kiela and Vostok Valaician in the city of Carvala. Vostok was a general in the Broddring army and his mother was the daughter of a minor noble from The Tears of Leona. Throughout his young life, he was taught manners and etiquette and writing by his mother and virtue, fighting, and mathematics from his father. He was proficient with a longsword by the time he reached manhood at 16, during the Blue Divide, and he joined the army that night. After training, he joined Vostok’s command and battled long and hard for the cause, fighting in Kirtan and Osilon, as well as in the battles of the homeland on the Silent Plains, around Isentar Lake, and the sieges of The Tears of Leona. Through these battles and through the training before, he saw many types of weapons and learned to use several. He learned that if he knew how to handle any sort of weapon, that he would be able to fool anyone in the art and be able to use anything he picks up, no matter the situation.
The long years of war had been surprisingly good to Edan. He gained access to the weapons scattered along the battlefields where there was Broddring Victory, and was able to train with them. He also was moved up the ranks, and was a Captain by the end of the war. He had even married a beautiful girl from The Tears of Leona and had two sons with her, the youngest being born six years before the end of the war.
The assassination of Palancar, however, changed all of that.
Well, most of that. The important bits at least. The chaos following Palancar’s death had caused something that Edan had hoped not to see for a much longer time, and something that not even the entirety of the Elven wars could do. It caused the death of General Vostok Valaician and his wife, Kiela. That was a blow to Edan, as he was only a little ways away when they were killed in a random scuffle. The Assassination also caused the war to end with the chaos in Broddring causing the war to be unsustainable on their side. He was relegated to a command in Broddring with the training corps and promoted his last time, to major. With his promotion, he moved his family to Carvala where they received beautiful housing for his service and due to his new position in the military. He had saved money from his earlier days and also bought three acres of land outside of Carvala.
Life went on, his oldest son learning Edan’s trade and also the trade of the blacksmith and left home to enter his journeyman phase of training after serving in the Broddring military. He lead training for dozens of training companys, and mainly focused on two things. His family, first, and his training second.
In the ten years between the end of the Divide and present day, Edan trained daily. Thousands of days of time was devoted to his weapons training. He grew in skill with every weapon, foreign and domestic, that he could get his hands on. That was a lot, too, after the war. He grew in skill to the point that he was extremely confident that he could pick up any weapon he would come across and use it masterfully. After over 30 years of training, he could back that confidence up too. But, this led him to the Hand of Leona. His highly religious wife brought him first to the church, and he even joined the faith, following the tenants as taught by the human leaders and the prophet, and has successfully, through his earlier training and his focusing of the faith, attained the first pillar and is now a sentinel.
Its ten years since the assassination rocked his world. He retired from the military with honors at the rank of General, and has just let his second son loose into his career and military path with confidence that they will indeed be good men. He is continuing deeper into the faith, and wishes to tackle the test for the next pillar soon. He has kept the edge on his skill with all weapons, not slacking off a bit in his age with his training. He has kept a loving relationship with his wife, and will hold her close until the day she dies, and knows that she will do the same. He tests his skill in tournaments and has won many an honor through them, and he plans to continue this trend on of serving king, family, and the Hand.

*Daran strides confidently into the first few trees of the Bare Forest, friends and his rival Serj behind him. He feels fairly confident that he can do the challenge or surviving on his own for two days, no matter the legends. He has a small pack on his back, containing rations for two days, a firestarter, and first-aid kit with bacta patches. He has fairly durable, simple hiking clothes on, and a hat. He starts the hike through the forest as the sight at the edge of the forest fades, and moves for a few miles. After an hour or two of hiking, he spots someone running among the trees. His mind works quickly, and Daran sees a couple more running around him. He stops and slides into an unarmed fighting stance, and yells* Come out now!
*At his yell, he hears no response except that of grunts, and heavy breathing. He looks warily at where the sound is originating, and realizes the stories about the corpses being reanimated by parasites were real. He gets a jolt of panic, but clears that out of his mind as the adreniline starts pumping. A couple of the "zombies" come out of the trees, running at him and snarling. Daran lets them approach, then steps to his right quickly and snaps a kick into the "zombie" on the right. It propels the "zombie" into the next to it and knocks them down, tangling them up together. Daran sees his chance and bolts, trying to get away from the two that were just rushing him. Daran hears more snarling, now all around him, and shakes inside, overwhelmed by the sheer amount that he hears. He runs on, trying to get away from the living dead around him, and reachs a clearing, scampering up the closest tree to it, so he can jump off and run if he needs to, and hunkers down, thinking "This... is going... to be one hella long two days..."*
