The girl who stood beneath the boughs of the tree was clearly an elf. Long hair was bound up in a high ponytail, a black ribbon fixing it in place. Icy blue eyes peered out from beneath a messy onyx forelock. The only color that emanated from her was the eyes. They were so pale they were almost white. In truth, she was going blind from some strange affliction. But Eitauv was her eyes now. He saw for her, being a constant companion. The large male dragon loomed over her, massive leathery wings folded against his torso. Laemiri looked up at him, craning her head back to see. Segmented scales covered his body, and her pale hand reached out slowly to run her fingers over the iridescent scales.
'Eitauv.....when did you last eat?' she asked, a soft sigh escaping her.
'The last time I found a dead deer.'
Laemiri laughed a bit. 'Do you not hunt?'
'No. I dont like to kill things. Its not their fault they are so small and weak.'
'You certainly never cease to amaze me Eitauv. Not even after all these years. You know that if you have to fight you'll have to kill someone, right?
'I suppose I'll just step on them.' Eitauv thought with a sigh.
Laemiri thought, her gaze nearly pointless. A blind elf, and one that had managed to keep her affliction a secret for so long a time. 'You sure you wont rend their heads from their shoulders?'
'Please Laemiri. If you continue such talk I'll have nightmares for weeks.' The big male dragon thought.
'I miss my sight, Eitauv....' Laemiri thought. 'I suppose I'll have to see with magic....'
'Oh yeah? And I suppose I'm just a big scaley voice in your head? One that with fangs?'
'Well if you want to describe yourself as a large Sauger, then sure.' Laemiri teased with a giggle.
Eitauv batted at her with a paw playfully. 'You know what I meant.'
'If you say so, Eitauv. Perhaps, you've always wanted to be a fish. How do I know you don't want to be a fish?'
'Because, I'm fairly certain that I enjoy flight. I dislike the idea of being a fish. Having to breathe water...doesn't appeal to me in the least. I prefer breathing AIR, thank you very much.'
'Perhaps you like to stay in the water rather than among the trees and the ground and air. I don't know. You keep me out, quite a bit. You don't let me in.' Laemiri said, turning to Eitauv.
She wrapped her hands around the spike on his tail, hauling herself up. She used her mind and hands to feel her way up his spine to the hollow in front of his wings. She wrapped her legs around his neck, using her hands to steady herself on the ridge of his backbone. Her hands were small, like her tiny little torso. It was pale as could be, like ivory. Her gaze was half-way there, not focusing. She repositioned herself and tightened her grip a bit. 'Go ahead, Eitauv.' She thought to the big male dragon, moving herself as he took to the sky. With a few dull thuds they were above the treetops, skimming the trees with his wingtips. He flew low, not too high. He only planned to land in a clearing near Ellesmera.
Into their home he flew, landing on the aerie platform. Laemiri slid down from his back, padding over to the bed in the room. She flopped down on the mattress, curling up in the blankets. Eitauv moved to the huge hollow in the floor, curling his entire mass into the depression; which seemed near impossible seeing as he was a little bigger than a merchant ship completely stretched out. The tree itself was hugely thick around the middle, and it would take atleast fifteen elves to wrap their arms around it and they still wouldn't be able to measure the circumfrence of this tree. It's boughs were large enough to support Eitauv's weight so it was fine. Laemiri sighed, falling asleep rather quickly, as did her reptilian companion.
