I had hoped that my secret had been enough to surprise the stupid count. I had been surprised the day prior to Genji’s own arrival to have a servant come to me and bring for a box with a beautiful dress. I had called my maids to help me place it upon my body after dinner was over. It was a beautiful emerald green, which matched my own eyes and held golden lace for the trims. It was long sleeve, giving me warmth as I wore it. The cloak that had come with it was absolutely beautiful as well, the same color green, but the golden trim made a beautiful fire breathing dragon and held rubies in the eyes of the dragons. I had laid the cloak upon my own bed to allow myself to make sure the dress was nice before going out upon the balcony to look at the beautiful stars. I did not know who had sent the present, but it was beautiful and I knew that Genji would not have given such a beautiful dress to me, he was not a good enough gentleman to even think of this marvelous dress.

As I pulled the cloak upon my shoulders, it felt so embracing and warming. I had pulled my back slightly, keeping the strands away from my face but still allowing it to cascade down my back. I hooked the button at the top and strolled out upon the balcony, placing my hands upon the cold stone as I looked out towards the sky. I closed my eyes and pulled my own hands back into the cloak and found a rather warm pocket on either side where my hands would be, but within’ the right was something that felt of parchment and metal. I looked down in slight confusion and pulled out the parchment and ring and went over to the light of my own room which was lite with a few candles that our spell caster had placed that would never burn out and went off after the last person was gone or asleep. It made for great light and as I unfolded the parchment I smiled.

I turned it over to check and make sure that that was all that was written and then looked at the metal ring attached to the parchment and a wave of warmth and happiness floated into my own being and I spun around to head out the door to the balcony. I looked around for a moment, but saw nothing and just smiled as I watched the sky for anything that might prove to be him. I just wanted to wish, wish upon a star that he would come sooner, wished he would have come before Genji had arrived… ”Why do you look to the skies, do you hope that the stars shall grant you a wish Leilani?” I jumped, turned around to see the face of the man whom I had fallen in love with. I smiled, jumped into his arms without a second notice and wrapped my arms around he strong neck. "I am so happy you are here."

[/color] My words left my lips in a whisper and a tear trailed down my cheek. I thought I would have to marry that wretched Count and be lonely for the rest of my life.

Darek watched from the shadows as Leilani opened her gift, he was also there when she had gotten it. His sister had changed his appearance so that he could bring her the gift he had made by hand. Day after day. He had almost given himself away disguised as a servant, he was almost positive Sean had seen through the disguise many times but refused to give up just in case.

And so for hours Darek had waited in her bedroom, smelling the air that so reminded him of their first meeting. And the few changes he saw in the room told him all he needed to know. She had not given up on him either. With that knowledge he stayed there and waited. When she tried on the dress was the only time he turned from her since the moment she entered the room, cloaking himself in the blackness so far away from the candle light.

As Leilani found the letter and his ring he got ready to make his appearance. He waited till her back was to him before he followed after. When he was but a mere whisper away he spoke to her for the first time in many months and he meant every word.

Darek let out a small laugh as she first jumped from being startled and then into his arms. He easily held her wait in his arms looking down at her fondly. Her soft arms wrapped around his neck only intensified the intimacy he felt with her. He had heard her sing in a tongue he did not know and it was beautiful, as was she. " And I am happy you have not let me go." Darek said gently before adding " For it would have burned me more then a thousand suns." With that Darek kissed away the tear from her eye and said " Why do you cry? Did you think I had forgotten you? Believe me I have a friend here that is on your side as you have your own friends my sweet." Darek said as he walked to the balcony with her in hand and let his wings stretch? " Shall we go to the tallest tower or just stay here?"

I heard his laughter as I jumped into his arms, my own were wrapped tightly around his neck, my hair I was sure pressed against his cheek slightly. His arms were so nice around my body, so comfortable that I did not care if they were cold or hot. I wondered how long he had been around this place, how long he had been watching me. I knew he could hide anywhere he wanted to, but I wanted to know where he had been hiding. ”And I am happy you have not let me go." I shook my head, burying my face deeper into his neck and shoulder. ”For it would have burned me more than a thousand suns." I would have never forgotten about this man, not within’ a thousand years. He kissed away my tear with a gentle touch before he spoke to me. ”Why do you cry? Did you think I had forgotten you? Believe me I have a friend here that is on your side as you have your own friends my sweet." I shook my head. ”No, I did not believe you forgot me, but I was scared you would keep to your word to not try and ruin my engagement and I would never see you again…”

I remembered the day I had gotten his finally letter about how he wanted me to be happy and did not want to ruin the engagement that had happened. ”Shall we go to the tallest tower or just stay here?" I glanced around for a moment and then smiled. ”Here… No one will bother us here.”[/color] I said, leaning my head back on his chest and shoulder.

Darek looked at her face, so much like an elf's and a sad smile came across his. Slowly he lifted his braided hair to her showing her the remaining two ribbons in his hair. " As you can see with them beautiful eyes that are alight with the forest I still have the green ribbon in my hair, and thus I still shall not try to ruin the engagement." Darek said sadly as he felt her lush raven black hair rub against his cheek. " You know as well as I that I can not break my honor, just as you can not marry this Genji." Darek said with a smile as he brought her back into the room and sat on the bed. His yellow predatory eyes looking down on her as his wings slowly enveloped them.

" I came here because I was told you were unhappy and had all but stopped talking to your sister. It is never a good feeling when you fight with family." Darek said remembering his sister's last gift to him before she died. " Trust me I have lived with my sisters hatred all my life and it was one of the few things that could hurt me. Now she is gone, she died on a quest that a few of the riders went on." Darek said solemnly.

" Enough talk of death and despair tough I am here to make you smile, not cry." Darek said as he sat down gracefully on her plush bed with her, his long silvery hair over his shoulder. " I did not lie when I told you I loved you Leilani. But until the time is right I shall not also start a war between the races. I shall not be the implement of war. The riders have fought to hard for peace, some more then others but all the same." Darek said with a smile on his face.

As he lifted his braids, I saw the two remaining ribbons that hung within’ his long silver hair. It brought a sad look into my eyes as his own sad eyes looked me. Soon, we moved into the bed chambers and set upon the bed, his arms stayed around me and his wings engulfed us both. I allowed my body to relax against him and closed my eyes. ”I came here because I was told you were unhappy and had all but stopped talking to your sister. I opened my eyes and looked up at him for a moment. ”And it will continue to be so until she quit with this engagement… She knows it makes me unhappy and until that time, she will know my hatred for it will be rubbed off on her.”

[/color] I said in a voice so harsh that one would not believe it was my own words, but I had changed some since Darek had last spoken with me. The engagement had brought out a part of me that was harsh and cruel.

”Trust me I have lived with my sisters hatred all my life and it was one of the few things that could hurt me. Now she is gone, she died on a quest that a few of the riders went on." I looked away, my eyes closed again as I leaned back into his chest. ”Enough talk of death and despair tough I am here to make you smile, not cry." ”Darek, I will not marry this man, I would rather end my life than…”[/color] My voice was cut shot as I thought over a few things. My plans to run to Illrea in the next week was still in my own mind and I would do that… ”Darek? Is it possible to change the appearance of someone other than yourself with magic to look completely different in the eyes of others?”[/color] I asked, look him dead in the eyes, my words were truly something, a true thought that came from my own mind and I wanted the truth.

Darek could see that Leilani was not happy with his statement just by the look in her eyes. He also knew that if they got into a debate that someone would come to see what all the fuse was about. And that could very well end badly, for her brother would be able to give him little help openly in front of the whole royal court. And Darek did not expect him to, Turin had put much on the line for someone he barely knew, and Darek was extremely grateful for that.

”And it will continue to be so until she quit with this engagement… She knows it makes me unhappy and until that time, she will know my hatred for it will be rubbed off on her.”

Darek was shocked at the sudden change in Leilani. He had not known nor expected her to act in such a way. The girl he remembered was not so harsh, and it made him wounder what had happened since he had been gone. What had Genji done to his Queen. And that brought Darek's darker side out, and he asked as calmly as he could one question. " Did he hurt you." Darek was many things but not even Turin or Sean would stand for this man hurting the one they all cared for so much. Darek was both kind and vengeful. And when his blood lust was let lose very few things could hold him back, it was one of the reasons he had gone to Illirea, for fear of what would happen if he entered the games.

Darek waited for an answer as she laid against his back trying to relax. But he sensed she was about to ask him something of very big importance and so he listened carefully to her words. Once she was finished Darek let out a long sigh before he answered. " Magic can do many things, if worked properly. If you are simply asking if it can be done, why not ask the old man who brought you a gift from a merchant. He was not so happy when he heard his princess would throw her life away because of a marriage. He was quite surprised at the ease at which she said this in fact." Darek said with a grin. " And the spell as all magic dose only lasts as long as you have the power to maintain it. Taking on another appearance is high treason in most places though, even in the human kingdom if I'm not mistaking. Why do you ask? And as for ending your life, how then would you be with me?" Darek asked her quietly hoping he had answered her question completely.

Not being happy was just the start of my thoughts when it came to the statement. I wanted nothing to do with this marriage and I did not plan on seeing it through. Either they would stop or I would die. I would not change my own mind on this subject, I would not marry that man, I would never marry that man. He did not believe in love and he wanted nothing of me, only wanted to get the gains he could get. Darek… He loved me and that is what I wanted in a marriage and in a family. As I glanced up at the man I loved, I saw the shock that came to his face at my cruel and harsh statement. All this stuff had changed me… The forcing me into something I did not want caused me to become different and crueler. ”Did he hurt you." I looked away… I could say yes, I could tell Darek he did and maybe he would kill him. I could say that… ”No… He has not hurt me, but I will not be forced to marry someone who only want to gain a position to be able to get what he wants from my sister… I will not marry someone who does not love, nor cares for me at all.”

Though I was not sure how long it would be before Genji did hurt my physically or mentally, but when that day came, he would find his title of Teirm stripped and his body hanging from the rafters of our dungeons and daily beatings and tortures by me. I might not like fighting or violence, but for the man whom I was engaged to, I would take front row tickets to watch it. I placed my head against his chest, I closed my eyes, wanting to have him take me away, so I could be all of his forever.

I thought about it for a moment. ”I don’t care if it is high treason, I do not want to marry that man and if I must kill myself to show them it will never be done, I will… The moment I am put in front of that alter, I will be ready with either a knife or poison. I will not be forced to marry a man I will never love and who will place a hand of control over me.”[/color] I said, my words strong but quiet to keep anyone outside the doors from knowing I was speaking to someone else.

Darek listened and absorbed what his love said and slowly thought about what she said, thinking before he spoke. Then when he was sure of his words he spoke. " If I am not mistaken your sister is the one who went to Genji, not the other way around. It was not he who came looking for you so how is it that he only wants to use you for his own personal gain besides being part of the royal family?" Darek asked. He knew how elf government worked, and though confusing to outsiders it was not so for him. He also understood the riders version of government. But he barely understood humans and there ways into royalty. " As to you not wanting to marry someone you do not love. That I can understand for I have similar qualms. Only mine are a little more complicated do to this." Darek said as if he meant his condition.

Darek truthfully did not know what to do. In his heart he wanted to take her away from all this pain, but he also knew that it was much harder then that. He may have an ally in her brother, but in Sean, and enough other important people to make it so that no war happened by her leaving, with him no less he dared not even believe in such a hope. What if I could trick Genji? Darek thought to himself, make him slip up and tell me his plans. No he seems to smart for that. Darek decided as he slowly and gently moved Leilani to the bed and he himself began to pace back and forth in a brilliant silver robe like outfit.

As Leilani spoke Darek only got more and more annoyed at the situation. " What if I ask my friend what he can do for us? To free you to marry who you choose by convincing your brother and sister. Could you wait long enough for me to try. And while I try you could try to build a case to show your family why he is not a good person to be placed in the royal family. No one is a better diplomat, nor negotiator then you after all." Darek said trying to get through to her softer side. " I'm only asking for two nights. And you will not have to stay hidden inside your room, I will have it arranged so that you can see me freely while I visit." After all telling you about your sisters progress is one of my jobs is it not." Darek said with a smile as he bent down and kissed her on the forehead.

[/color] I asked him before looking away. ”Turin over heard her speaking to Uncle and told the uncle that it took some convincing and showing him what he would gain before he accepted… Turin came to me and told me that.”[/color] I said to him, glancing back at his predator like eyes. I did not know if he understood any of this stuff, but it was a chance to show them all. ”As to you not wanting to marry someone you do not love. That I can understand for I have similar qualms. Fly me as far from this land as possible. No one would ever know where we were, would never know anything of it! They would not have to know it was him and I would free of the curse to marry that awful man. I refused to be forced into this and I did not plan on allowing it chance. No one was there, no lights were lite and it was quiet. ”I'm only asking for two nights. After Darek heard how Genji was convinced he began to understand how here sister worked, though not perfect, it was from the heart and her sister did only want the best for her. Though why Genji and not any of the other lords he was not sure, Leilani could even have been offered to the hands of a rider and few would have thought it odd. Only that they were trying to heal old wounds and show that they were willing to change their ways if his own people were. So why Genji Darek thought to himself. What made him the target of her sisters admiration. And that's when it hit her, Leilani sister wanted him herself, she knew though that her younger sister had a better chance though at least in her mind, and that was why she was so set on this marriage. Darek smiled proudly at himself and said. " Why not have them in a room together, say trapped together for a long period of time. Let them get to know each other. I believe I know why she wants this so bad. She wants him herself." Darek said almost sure of himself.

Darek listened and did not say anything as she spoke, only going up behind her and wrapping his arms around her waist. " You are correct that no one can stop you, but they can stop me." Darek said. " Let me get at least your brothers blessing and then no one shall challenge you walking around with me, not even Genji." Darek said as he looked up at the stars. " One day your name shall be up there. I see a great destiny before you, maybe even finally getting the riders to remake their pack to the dragons." Darek whispered into her ear. " I love you and always will. You may see me as being cruel now, but when your sister, or brother died looking for you. Our Sean killed himself for you disappearing from the castle you would not feel the same. You would hate me. This is why I do not take you away this very moment. "Darek said trying to get her to understand his point of view.

I allowed my eyes to look out at the stars and the moon, wish that a God, any God that actually cared, would give me something… Give me ANYTHING… I would take it, as long as it did not involve marrying a man whom I would never love. Why was I being punished for something? What had I done to receive this punishment?! I wanted to scream, wanted to jump from this balcony and pray that Darek did not catch me, because I knew he had no plans of taking me as far away as he could. It killed me to know that I would possible have to marry that… Man. I was going to do my best to hold it off, to keep it from happening.

”Why not have them in a room together, say trapped together for a long period of time. Let them get to know each other. I believe I know why she wants this so bad. She wants him herself." I turned my head, looking at him with a sort of, confused look. ”My sister? Wants Genji? I will believe it when I see it… The woman is not someone who can be loved easy, you know? The thought of Genji seeing us together brought a smile to my face. He would see where my true heart lies and he would know he could do nothing about it. “One day your name shall be up there. I see a great destiny before you, maybe even finally getting the riders to remake their pack to the dragons." I smiled at the thought. ”A friend of mine is already speaking about this with me today… She said that they were considering it after I last went to Illrea… Told them of the Pros it would bring to the land.”[/color] I said to him, though he did not know who my friend was, it was me secret friend at that.

I felt his breath upon my ear as he allowed his voice to whisper to me. ”I love you and always will. You may see me as being cruel now, but when your sister, or brother died looking for you. Or Sean killed himself for you disappearing from the castle you would not feel the same. You would hate me. This is why I do not take you away this very moment." I looked down slightly. Honestly, the thought of Nayeli dying was not to hurtful, but when it came to Turin and my over protective body guard… I felt guilty slightly.

Darek looked out to the sky, as if asking it in its great age and wisdom for a sign to show him a way this could all work out without a war. But it remained silent as always. Only twinkling stars and the brilliant hunter's moon illuminating the sky above, every now and again the hoot of an owl touched his sensitive ears. But no answers. It killed him to see his love Leilani in so much pain and him being able to do nothing to help her. But the fact was as he had told her he would not be used as the tool to war.

When Leilani turned to me after i spoke to her about her sister wanting Genji i almost had to laugh at her words as she spoke them, but I was silent as she said them, listening to her strong and sure voice that was filled with kindness very few had ever shown me.

”My sister? Wants Genji? I will believe it when I see it… The woman is not someone who can be loved easy, you know? She is someone who most would consider blood thirsty.”

" Nor am I one that can be easily loved, I am neither elf, nor lycanthrope. I am neither living nor am I dead. But you saw through all that, you a human did what few of my own race could do because of my unholy existence. Many call me bloodthirsty and rightly so, I must drink it to survive, but dose that mean then that I do not love and wish for it myself Leilani. I'm almost positive your sister thinks I have you under a little spell and am just waiting to drink you dry. The only difference between us is that I am the embodiment of what most would consider her, so if you can love me. Why is it so hard to believe that none can love her, or more importantly that she herself can not love?" I asked Leilani softly, not harsh but as if I were explaining something to an extremely young child as she turned her emerald gaze from me to the kingdom below. " She loves you, she loves your brother, and she certainly loves this kingdom. To me that is enough to tell me she is a good person, and only means the best. Even when it hurts those she loves the most." Darek said with a smile.

I should get going." I said not happy at the idea, but neither arguing about the sensibility in it as well. Slowly I looked up at the beautiful hunter's moon listening to the music of the night. " If only we had a piece of canvas and paint." I said smiling to Leilani as I waited for her answer. Though I did not wish to leave her side, it was improper for me to stay. I had already pressed my virtues by staying in the room while she changed. But while she slept, that was another matter. Or at least I told myself that. Truthfully if she asked me to stay with her through the night I was not sure I would be able to tell her no. And while all this went on in my mind, my body had changed little besides loosening my grip slightly so that Leilani could turn around freely or get out of my arms. Whichever she wished, until the end of time I would respect her wishes. But not because she was the princess of the Brodding empire, but because I loved her just as much as she loved me.

As the stars just twinkled and some did not, I could not look away until I knew the God or gods had not heard me. I wanted to just scream at the thought of being ignored. I think it would be more like she put her faith in the wrong person and she was hurt." I said to my love Leilani, hoping for her sake I was correct. " You will not marry that man, your brother would not allow it, nor shall I. If it comes down to a fight, then so be it. But until there are no other choices open to me I shall not start a war. I shall not be able to get your sisters love, but I know I can gain her respect with any weapon in my hands. And respect dose lead to understanding in time. Hopefully we will have the time. So if you do not mind when you are with Genji because of your sister I shall myself be with her or Turin. That way I can build a bond with them so that maybe we do not have to go down the darker road. " I was truthfully worried about it coming to the darker road, it could unleash something I had hidden away for a long time. But for her the swordmaster of Ilirea would unleash his fury. And the roads would fill with blood. This was his fate, and the last ribbon in his hair. The blood of those he loved. And even though she cast looks that could stop the most trained soldier on a battle field I did not flatter in my resolve. I would not give up on a peaceful end until I had to.

As I watched Leilani features to await her answer I saw saddness touch her delicate features. I had been away for far to long, and I could tell she did not want to give me up as she leaned into my chest. Slowly I wrapped my arms around her and said in the ancient language for myself as much as for her. " I will stay until you are asleep fully.." With that i lifted her up into my arms and carried her over to the bed, humming to her of happiness and love all the while. As we arrived at the bed I pulled down all the plush blankets so that she could be warm throughout the night and then laid her gently down, pulling up the blankets when she was comfy. " Would you like the fireplace lit or no?" I asked her, as I laid down by her side just above the covers. While Leilani lay by his side he sang to her the whole night until she finally slept. " You shall see me tomorrow Leilani I promise you that." And with that I rose from the bed, sure she was awake and left to the carriage I had waiting outside the city a few miles out. In the morning I would ride through the front gates like any other noble.
