What the staff has decided to try is that the boards are split like they area into region, but that say... the cities of Broddring are faction specific, specifically the government faction. What that would mean is that the members of the controlling faction are able to pow around with more freedom and get preferential treatment from NPCs in the area, and that members of the opposing factions would have to be extremely cautious in any rp there.
Take this. Character "Eric Darcsen" is an Elven scout trying to look around the city of Teirm to make a mission that DW desperately needs a reality. What Eric would have to do is roleplay setting up a disguise outside of town in the thread and move into town. That also means that Eric's player, "Geeves" lets say, would send a PM to one of us and we would start watching that thread. What us watching the thread would mean is that if we see Eric doing something conspicuous or anything that would draw scrutiny to himself, we would jump in and post that the NPC guards of Teirm and the Broddring agents would start watching him, all the way up to the guards rushing Eric and attempting to capture them.
What we could do for that, is that once they get spotted and officially broke their cover, we could pause the RP and open it up for a 24 hour period to have one appropriate faction member join and chase them down with guards, or at the end of the time we join with NPCs to do the same. At this point, they must escape or be captured, although what happens is completely up to the RP and the NPCs are not instantly killable by the runner, and the RP commences from there.
So Eric Darcsen breaks his cover by being a racist douchebag without thinking, and the FUZZ notices him. We pause the RP for a day, and Player "Aaron" joins with his Broddring Military character "Jason Kane" who recieves a call to chase this man down. They start a chase, and Aaron controls both Jason and NPC Teirm guards to try to box Geeve's Eric in and capture him, and Geeves tries to roleplay Eric out of the city to get away. In the case of capture, we take the character and make them inactive for a 24 hour period, and apply random repercussions to the character. A reduction in standing in his real faction, or a scar to remember the capture and interrogation. If Eric gets away, Jason is applied some punishment by the faction leader and released back into the world as he wants.
The point of this is to foster faction gameplay, and enforce the game borders and actually force people to play smart. It also adds intrigue to the picture, which could be fun. The perks and theoretical funness of this would be the draw to factions. Independent characters would still be possible, and they would be allowed in all places, although they would have none of the perks or preferential treatment of being in the family.
WHAT THIS MEANS FOR YOU, THE PLAYER, is that you all need to post here on this thread what characters are alligned to what faction, so I can split up the Character List by factions.
Please note that the Hand of Leona acts like the Broddring Government faction in territory, but must be listed as the Hand, as that could change later due to plots and such.
Also, I can't force you into this, but I would LOVE it if you all had more characters aligned with factions than not. It would make me SO happy. Even if they are not currently aligned with a faction, you can attach them to a governmental faction at the very least.
This also means that if any Brodding faction members want to play in DW, you must PM the staff so we can actually watch you and start the mini-events if we feel you are too conspicuous in your actions. We are going by an honor system about the chases right now, but I'm serious, don't pull stupidity to get ou of the city just cause you don't want to fail. Especially if it is another member playing. Repercussions to the characters will happen to one or the other character involved, so play fair and give it up if your really boxed in.
THIS GOES INTO EFFECT NOW, IN TRIAL MODE. That means, any new threads after this is up need to follow the faction rules. All that means is PM us if your in an opposing factions area. Thats the only time it really matters.
Thanks!
