It was the last day of Dantie's stay in Ilirea when he finally got his summons to the Sacred Font, where the unborn dragons that still waited in there eggs waited to hatch for their Riders, and shares of the mind. Just days before Dantie had been conversing with Ed' about the beauty of the dragons and how he wished to become a rider and share in the beauty and honor of becoming a rider, so that he had someone to share his mind with who would understand him fully. Finally on the last day before he was due to depart from the great city-state of the riders they had called for him for the trial of the eggs, as he liked to call it.
It was mid afternoon and the sun was high in the sky as Dantie made his way to the must protected place in the world. There was not a cloud in the sky, and the temperature was just right, being neither to hot or to cold. Dantie was in his customary full plate armor that covered his entire body and protective metal, though he knew he had nothing to fear in Ilirea he liked having the comfort of it on him at all times. Though unlike normal he did not have his helmet on that covered his face from view as well, he wanted all to see him as he walked towards the riders main fortress, in his freshly polished shadesteel armor. On his right hip on a silver chain was held his ceremonial sword which he had gotten for graduating top of his class at the riders school. The blade itself was also made of the beautiful and durable shadesteel, but nothing else. The grip was made of black leather wrapped around a wooden hilt. The crosspiece was made of silver and was two dragons facing in opposite directions moths open with rows of finely detailed teeth. In the center of the cross piece where the two heads formed one neck was a diamond set into it, not the purest, or even the best cut, but it was a diamond, and thus he could store some of his energy into it. Lastly the hilt of the blade held a dragons head made of silver, and perfectly balanced the weapon out.
The sheath was also very beautiful with three dragons wrapping around each other until it got to the base. All the claws were set with small diamonds, and the eyes were set with different color gems. As Dantie walked up the stairs past the guards and wardens of the Riders he felt for the first time like he belonged somewhere, like he fit in. As he walked he passed by pillar after marble pillar, until he finally came upon the huge double doors that would lead him to the section of the Riders fortress that would lead him to the egg chambers. Dantie stopped and looked at the huge double doors that were crafted out of the most beautiful hardwood, and were engraved with many beauties. " Its a shame that such beauty as yours be hidden from most of the world." Dantie said as he laid his hand on the ancient wood and felt its response to his touch.
Slowly Dantie pushed the double doors open and came into a giant courtyard, large enough for two dragons to land in easily, that had guards all around it and was open to the sky. " Wish me luck." Dantie said to no one in particular as he crossed over to the door leading down to the egg chambers. As he neared two guards came out of hiding and held up their hands. " Halt. State your name." Dantie couldn't help but let a small frown cross his face as he said this for after all he had just graduated top of his class, he should be the thing all people were talking about at the moment. Yet no one knew of him. Without giving it a second thought Dantie stopped in his place and greeted the guards in the customary elven gesture. " I am Dantie Du Urden, and am here for the trial that awaits me behind those doors." As Dantie finished he waited for a sign of acknowledgment, something to show that the guards had heard of him, but nothing crossed there faces as the one who appeared to be the leader spoke. " Ahh your name is on the list, you may pass." And with that they stepped aside and Dantie entered.
As Dantie walked down the spiral stairs that would lead to the different levels of the egg chambers a mixture of anxiety washed over him and panic. The second of the two he easily pushed away, but the first was a constant reminder of where he was. As his feet hit the cobblestone of the first level Dantie looked out over the vast area that the eggs covered. The place was immense. " How am I suppose to go through all these eggs." Dantie laughed to himself as he looked at all the individual sand pits that held a dragons egg decilatly in each. Torches were spaced twenty feet apart from one another giving more then enough lighting. As Dantie made his way through the eggs he saw that there were even guards inside the chambers. " Looks like no thief would ever get away with an egg, its a good thing to." Dantie said to no one in particular as slowly walked down the many aisles of eggs gliding his hands across each and every egg in the vast room until there were no more left to touch.
As he came to the stairs to go down to the next level came up he thought to himself, " What if no one chooses me, I shall be sent back to my home to live the life of a simpleton. O please let one of them hatch for me." Dantie pleaded as he came down to the second landing and once again came to a room filled with eggs. As he had before he went through the room laying his bared hands to all the eggs, but this time he opened his mind to all of the eggs in turn. " I only wish for someone to call my own. To protect and share my mind with. " Dantie said out to all the minds of the dragons as he walked. Repeating over and over his intentions, and baring his mind to them all. As he neared the stairs again he heard a small sound and looked around. Nothing seemed amiss everything was as it had been, or so he had thought as he saw a dragon burst out of its shell in a glorious act of both beauty and viciousness. Were his eyes deceiving him, or was it true a Dragon had hatched for him. Slowly he walked up to the magnificent creature and held out his arms to it. " Have you answered my call?" Dantie asked into its mind for there was another on this floor with him who was also going around laying his hands on the eggs.
