The Order of Riders is a sacred coalition between elves and dragons forged nine millennia ago after Wyrdfell, the colossal battle between both races that resulted in hundreds of thousands of deaths. It allows a specially chosen egg to choose an elf as its Rider to bond with for life. This bond is more intimate and encompassing than any love, and the greatest pairs eventually become one entity. Most, however, are yin and yang, polar opposites that would be powerless without each other, and these pairs, though the most difficult to train, usually become the most famous.
Only very recently, humans were allowed to enter the Sacred Pact and become Riders as well as elves. This has caused colossal upheaval in Alagaësia unseen since the Blue Divide. Queen Dellanir banished the Riders from the mainland, going so far as to rile up a militia of human-loathing elves to attack Ilirea in the night. They were driven off the mainland to Vroengard, forced to leave behind countless books and artefacts. Sympathizers of the Riders were forced out as well, and now all of Ilirea’s citizens make do in a makeshift tent city at the foothills of Mount Erolas. This is an unpleasant shock to the Order, as up until recently, it was the undisputed centre of power in Alagaësia.
Currently focussed on building proper buildings, mapping Vroengard, and reclaiming their lost treasures, the Riders have very little time to spend on their real pursuit of knowledge, philosophy, and justice. However, they are not without sympathy, and many architects, magicians, and engineers have flocked to Vroengard to aid them. Elves and humans are found here, as well as strange, exotic races. Crime is rare, as most of the inhabitants occupy themselves with academic rather than militaristic pursuits- and those inclined to stir up trouble face the threat of being hunted down by a dragon.
However, the Riders are not without more than their equal share of enemies. Fuelled by jealousy and the questionable actions of Ilirea’s ruling oligarchy, the Riders, Ilirea is still mistrusted by Broddring for not aiding them in the Blue Divide, while Du Weldenvarden considers the Order to be traitors to their own kind for not doing the same- even more so now that humans have joined the Pact. Besides their reluctance to do anything in the war and their technological and cultural advancement, the fact that Ilirea is ruled by an Order, not a king or queen, is also a cause for much shock.
Due to the Riders’ anti-war policy, they did not participate in the Blue Divide, and this provoked a deep-seated resentment of the Riders by the rest of Alagaësia, hurting relations considerably. However, the Riders are still considered the teachers as well as the police of Alagaësia, and are allowed within Broddring’s borders. Besides basic skills such as reading and writing, the Riders are the established teachers of magic, and all children with the Talent are taken under their wing to learn from the Riders until they reach adulthood.

Staff Notes on the Riders-
- Since being all-powerful is no fun at all, we’ve purposely put the Riders on thin ice in this site’s setting. That means that yes, despite this being close to their golden age, they are generally viewed with distrust and contempt.
- Riders can also very easily get into trouble, so running around setting buildings on fire and doling out your personal sense of justice will not go unnoticed.
- Despite these, Riders will still be a very important part of this site’s plot progression. They must be specially applied for in Ilirea’s sub-board only after ten RP posts. Attempting to join with a Rider will result in a very scathing refusal by the staff, since I think we’ve mentioned this rule at least ten times by now.
