The birth of the dragons is a secret buried in time, but one thing is certain about them- they were not put on the earth by mere accident. They were the sole protectors of Alagaësia for many millennia. Dragons are most likely the wisest and most powerful beings in all creation, as well as one of the oldest. As such, they are rarely seen and little is known of them. Being highly untrusting of all other races, they are quick to avoid them, even going so far as to alienate bonded dragons.
Bonded dragons have, in essence, been ‘dumbed down’. Though still very powerful, one of the spells their wild brethren cast onto their eggs was to sever their ties to several repositories of ancient knowledge and power. This ‘missing knowledge’ is unknown to the Riders and their dragons. Besides this, bonded dragons also sacrifice their immortality, only being able to live as long as their Rider.
Dragons are only surpassed in their power by their beauty. They are reptilian, and yet not comparable to any reptile. They are generally one solid colour that can range in any hue of the rainbow, quadrupeds, and usually as capable of walking as they are of flying, though this isn’t always the case. Bonded dragons may fly at four months of age, carry their Rider at eight, and breathe fire at twelve. Dragons also never stop growing, though wild ones do so much more quickly and become much larger than their bonded kin.
Staff Notes on Dragons-
- Wild dragons are NOT permissible as characters. Paolini never failed to mention on every single page of the books just how crazy powerful they were, making them pretty much gods. We may break out of this for NPCs required for main plots, but besides those, they just aren’t applicable.
- Bonded dragons, however, are. To apply for a bonded dragon, you must have at least ten IC posts- yes, we’ll count them- and be available for upcoming main plots. To apply, head over to Ilirea’s Egg Chamber sub-board.
- Only full-blooded elves or full-blooded humans may be Riders, no exceptions.
- When RPing your dragon’s growth, give it at least three IRL months for them to reach their full power- flying, fire-breathing, etc. You can certainly take longer depending on how long your threads take, but if Nayeli or I see a five-hundred-foot leviathan straight out of the egg, we’ll ask you to severely tone it down.
