Name:
Axel “Blood Horn” Rose
Age:
30
Race:
Kull
Occupation:
Mercenary/Caravan Guard
Allegiance:
None
Physical Description:
Axel stands tall like most Kull at 7 foot. His tree-trunk sized arms carries a cruel sword that he has used since his twenty third year. His sword is abut three feet long, a grey iron color with a red tinge from his years of fighting. Its sheath is personally crafted wolf-skin reinforced with oxen hide. He has no hair because he wants his horns to be visible at all time. He received his tribal name ‘Blood Horn’ because of the natural red tinge on them. They are sharpened to a point and are much like a bull’s horns that cover his head. Just below the tips of his horns are two oval shaped eyes that are a dark blood red with a pearly clean white edging.
His voice is a deep, blood-curling boom that echoes about himself. He often uses it to threaten other denizens, but how he delivers his speech is how one can tell how he means them. He doesn’t wear any upper body clothing. His lower body is completely covered with large tanned brown ox-skin boots that have oxen leather trousers. His trousers have a large amount of patching he has done after battles. His skin is covered in various scars that he has received over his life of battle.
Personality:
Axel has a kind personality for a Kull. He’ll still anyone that threatens him in a heartbeat, but because of his time with Humans he doesn’t believe in the Urgal stereotypes about them. Unlike his comrades in the urgal and Kull camps, he also doesn’t believe the stereotypes of Elves because it seems that they are the same as humans. He is friendlier than most and tends to accept people into a personal circle. However that personal circle is mainly for people he has to work with for a certain amount of time. Very few people have made it to a close network of friends.
Besides the fact of having the circle and network of friends, Axel will fight to defend anyone that he comes across when his enemies are the cause of the fight. He is willing to fight to the death. He doesn’t hold a standard of a tribe so he fights for whomever and whatever he wants to. All he cares about is just making it through the day and having atleast two bloody meals.
History:
Axel was born to a nomadic tribe of urgals that had yet to establish themselves due to the fact that many believed none of the tribe members had old blood because that not a single Kull had been born from their broods since their arrival in this land. Axel was actually not born in the Haradac, his tribe had moved from there as elves were constantly sending raiding parties through their lands, instead he was born just two leagues north of Teirm, his tribe’s new land. His father, Narsvarth, could speak human so he approached diplomats outside of Teirm and had an arrangement that no human was to bother their tribe, known as Varsdur, and no urgal was to cause problems for the humans. Their arrangement was made known and both lived in peace. The traveling merchants often felt wary around the Varsdur that walked freely among the Spine.
Axel grew up within the Spine with several other children happily. They had an abundance of food, a friendly neighboring village and not really any enemies. Sure there were the occasional bandits that wanted to get some glory by killing urgals but the Varsdur had gotten too powerful as they honed their weapon making to match that of the humans. However the tribal leader, Garstooth, still taught the younglings how to fight, kill, and everything else urgals did. But Axel wasn’t the same as the others, he learned everything quicker, was stronger, faster, and more vicious than the other younglings.
Garstooth started to focus on Axel and trained him in many things that a Kull once taught him incase his tribe ever had a Kull born. When Axel entered his thirteenth year he hit the growth spurt. He grew quickly and his horns grew in quicker and earlier than everyone else. He was two feet taller than all the other urgals; he was officially the first Varsdur Kull. He continued training and learned to speak human for his future endeavors. For his assignment to officially be a Kull of the Varsdur he had to live in the wilderness of the Spine for two weeks and come back healthy. A task any urgal could do, he was upset about but did the quest anyways. He completed it easily.
Soon however, the Humans found out that a new Kull was within their reach. They came to the Spine and attempted to recruit him. The Varsdur were somewhat forced to allow Axel to do this because they had been in Human lands, and supposedly the Humans had protected them from Urgals and Elves that attempted to hunt them. All matters aside, he was willingly recruited as a mercenary and caravan guard. He liked his job. Got to travel all of the land and even went into a few human farming villages. As for being a mercenary he was often sent ahead of people and eliminated bandits, urgals, other mercenaries, anything that posed a threat to his employer.
During his twentieth year, he met a brood on the road that had been cast from her tribe because she had refused to kill a human child. He fell for her and followed the proper procedure to become her mate. They returned to the Varsdur and were officially mates. He took care of his brood-mate and they eventually had a child together.
Time passed and Axel was in his twenty-ninth year. He had fathered a child a year before and was happy that it was healthy. He went to Teirm’s outskirts to receive his next job. However by this time, alot of his tribe had fallen ill, and the Spine’s winter was heavier this season. This caused his tribe to be weakened severally. Axel left to go with a caravan when winter ended to trade excess supplies to farming villages. When he returned, he found his tribe in ruins, all of the bodies and blood were probably two days old. In the middle of all the bodies was a mark of the tribe that had attacked his. He found a trail and began his hunt.
He finally found the urgals after several full moons. He attacked and slaughtered the meager tribe of barely a dozen male, brood, and yearlings of the tribe. He returned to Teirm and explained to his main employer what had occurred. He was relieved of his duties and sent away, but still always welcomed back to his employment. Axel then started to travel the land hoping to find his place. Whether it was back in the Haradac, the Boers with the dwarves or maybe he could go north and find himself within human settlement. He has no tribe and is left to decide his own fate.
Roleplaying Sample:
Axel looked upon the camped urgals, he counted four males and broods and three yearlings. He had been hunting them for months and now was his chance to get revenge. This enemy tribe, Grestr they called themselves, had killed his family and tribe and now needed to be taught a lesson about messing with Kull. He was getting ready to attack when he realized it was close to dusk. His night vision is superior then that of the Urgals. He smiled and strayed back away from the camp to get ready for the nightfall.
Time passed as Axel waited and he saw the Urgals and their brood-mates get together. He then saw the children and he started to question what he was about to do. Then the visions came back of his entire village burning and his own child, barely a yearling, slaughtered in his sleep and his brood-mate brutally raped and murdered. His anger grew and he drew his wicked broadsword. Then one of the urgals doused the fire with mud and Axel had his chance.
He watched as the urgals laid down their weapons and went to bed with their brood-mates. He held his sword tightly in his hand and moved forward a little. He slowly advanced until he passed the tree line and advanced into the clearing. He held his sword ready to charge and bellowed with his entire throat. The urgals jumped up and attempted to figure out what was happening. Axel’s enemies didn’t know what was happening. They scrambled to find their swords, but to no anvil.
Axel rammed his oversized horns into the nearest urgal and felt the black blood run like a river down the horns onto his head. He spotted an urgal next to him drawing his blade and ripped the dead one off his horns. He raised his sword and beheaded the urgal that barely had the blade half-drawn. Axel felt a sting on his left arm and saw an arrow protruding from his upper arm. He snapped it off and bellowed another war cry as he charged the archer urgal and rammed his broadsword into his gut. Axel did a heavy uplift and split the urgal in half from the waist up. The final male urgal, four broods and five children all attempted to surrender. His deep, bellowing Kull voice gave them an answer, “You kill tribe, murder my family. It my turn.”
They had little time to beg as he swung his sword rapidly. He mauled all of them leaving the ground muddy with blood. He smiled and walked away content with his justice. He looked up at the heavens and blew a kiss to his brood-mate and child. “I be there soon family.” He told the heavens as the stars winked at him.
