Katsune Haruhei was, once again, walking through the Silent Plains with a bundle of his latest craftsmanship tied in a sack on his back. He had just finished a job in Teirm, and was now headed to Ceunon to sell off the stuff he had in the bag. So far he knew his work was highly valued, especially his "Eastern" style working tools. Those always seemed to go for an especially high price. His weapons were also fairly good, and he was starting to become renowned as the "Silent Blacksmith".
Of course with more renown came more attention from the bandit population of Alagaesia. He had already encountered several groups this very day. Of course he had fought with them, and he had already whet his blade with their blood. These. . . "Western" swords didn't seem to be of very good make. His Kodatchi shouldn't be able to cut through the metal like that, no matter how well made he had made his own sword. It was like they were fighting with hollow metal swords filled with chicken feathers.
Katsune scowled to himself as he recalled what he had been asked to do as part of his. . . "job" in Teirm. It had also included these sort of vile bandits.
(Flashback Time!)
"I have the head of the man you asked me to kill right here." Katsune said coldly as he slammed a severed head onto the wooden table that seperated him and the man who had asked him to kill the previous owner of the head. The man had a pompus look about him, obviously wealthy, flaunting that fact, and more than a little bit portly. He reminded Katsune of the pigs back at one of the farms in his home.
The man inspected the head a few times over, making sure it was actually the target and not some random guy off the street. "Excelent, excelent! That cretin has been troubling us for quite a while now! That young man made off with some of our best trading stock! Why hes been such a-" the man started to say excitedly. Before Katsune cut in that is. "I don't care how much trouble hes caused you. I killed the target, now where is the money you promised for his head?" Katsune said coldly.
The man look taken aback for a moment, before slightly nervously saying, "C-cut right to the point, don't you?" The man looked around for a moment, and then pulled out a brown sack that jingled. "Theres the money for his head. Now leave, I have some importaint duties to take care of. . ." the man said, starting to leave, and hastily at that. "Hold it." Katsune said coldly, his eyes locked onto the man. He tossed the bag up in the air a few times, as if testing its weight. He had worked with people like this pig long enough to know when he was being shortchanged.
"You're short fifty crowns." Katsune coldly said to the man. The man stopped suddenly, and then turned his head around slowly to look at Katsune. That was his first mistake. Katsune could see it in his eyes, he WAS trying to short change him. "We-well you see, we have sort of a. . . uh. . . money problem, so we c-can't give you the other f-f-fifty yet, so w-why don't you c-come back some other t-time-" the man started to stammer. Then Katsune gave him a death glare and the pig man quickly shut up.
"Money problem? Don't make me laugh. You have more than enough money here. You probably have more than fifty crowns on your person at this moment as well. You just didn't want to give up some of your precious crowns to some stranger who just killed off a problem you couldn't on your own." Katsune stated, transfixing the gaze of the terrified man with his eyes. "You should give over those other fifty crowns, else your head shall be flying next." Katsune finished.
Now the man had a sort of gleem to his eyes, as if he had found a flaw in Katsunes plan. "Haha. . . hahahaha! Hahahahahahaha! You? Kill me? I have twenty-five guards around here! What makes you think they won't stop you!?" the man suddenly laughed out. "I have no doubt that they'll get here, but by that time the blood will have already leaked out of your fat corpse, and I shall have been long gone." Katsune fiercly said, fingering his sword. That had been enough to convince the man to hand over the rest of the crowns.
(End of Flashback)
So now, here he was, back wandering the Silent Plains, no doubt that man had already placed a bounty on his head. Well, let them come, he needed some new materials anyways. Though he didn't have any metal on him, he knew how to take swords apart pretty well. These western swords were good for something after all, they made great eating utensils, and a good source of metal for those who lacked it.
